Abell Point Yacht Club welcomes revival

by Luke McCaul on 12 Apr 2014
SW
In conjunction with the launch of the revitalised Abell Point Marina brand, the marina has announced it will throw support behind the Abell Point Yacht Club (APYC) as part of the vision to create a destination marina.

With the multi-million dollar redevelopment well progressed and due to be complete before the start of this year cruising season, the launch of the new brand represents a world class marina experience focused on providing value to the customer.

Owner of Abell Point Marina Paul Darrouzet said ‘Most marinas around the world have a yacht club which attracts people to visit and provides the opportunity to run sailing and cruising events’. Mr Darrouzet will assist APYC in delivering its 2014 event calendar and strengthening participation in on and off water events out of Abell Point Marina.

Commodore of APYC Rupert King was very keen to kick off the new partnership and said 'APYC has a strong focus on revitalising the Club in 2014 and is excited to receive Paul’s offer of affiliation. The Marina is an extremely strong partner, with great synergies to the APYC, and the affiliation will be a big positive for both of us. The commencement of an active cruising calendar this year, with the targets being both power and sailing vessels, will fit well with Paul’s vision to create Abell Point as a destination marina for all types of vessels.'

The APYC will get a new look with committee members voting to adopt the new Abell Point Marina brand to go out with a fresh new look and to further bolster the relationship and extend the marina offering.

APYC members will soon receive caps and burgees bearing the new APYC branding and quality T shirts will be available for purchase at a discount price. The new membership card will entitle members to participate in the Abell Point Marina’s VIP program with discounts on marina village services including berthing and fuel.

The next major events for the Abell Point Yacht Club are the Warri Cup in May, Coral Coast Rally, leaving on 3 June and the Coral Coast Race, which starts on Friday 6 June. The Coral Coast race offers all the thrills and excitement of ocean racing, while the rally offers a relaxed cruise in good company for both sail and power vessels.

The Abell Point Sunset Series has also kicked off and will be run every second Friday to encourage a regular twilight sail followed by a social get together at the soon to be refurbished Sorrentos Bar and Restaurant.
