Australian Sailing and Melanoma Patients Australia have joined forces again in 2017 to encourage the sailing community to be sun smart and check your skin.

Melanoma Patients Australia (MPA) is a non-profit organisation which offers a national network of support and information to melanoma patients, their families, carers and friends. Established in 2006, MPA is a community resource that shares knowledge about melanoma prevention, diagnosis, management and treatment.

Australian Sailing Chief Executive Officer, Matt Carroll AM, said that the continuing partnership is crucial in ensuring the sailing community remain aware and take the necessary steps to stay healthy.

“Our partnership with MPA is important for a number of reasons particularly, to ensure we actively promote sun safe practices,” Matt said. “Checking for the signs of melanoma is something that we can all do with the guide MPA have provided.

“MPA is dependent on the support of generous donors and have recently launched their first ever fundraising campaign that will contribute significantly to the lives of those living with melanoma.”

Australian Sailing encourages the sailing community to support the MPA fundraising campaign as they strive to reduce the impact of melanoma on all Australians Donate now.

MPA Chief Executive Officer, Hayley Anderson said that they are delighted to once again be partnering with Australian Sailing.

“This year our partnership will focus on highlighting the importance of checking your skin regularly,” Hayley said.

“Most sailors are aware of the risks and the need to be sun smart but by checking your skin regularly using the ABCDE guide, you may potentially save your life or those of your family and friends.”
