First ever Marina Investment Seminar to take place October 2nd

The first ever Marina Investment Seminar will be held in Sydney on Thursday 2 October 2014.

Jeff d’Albora, Director of Dalcorp PL and a Director of the Global Marina Institute (GMI) and the Marina Industries Association (MIA) said, 'As an experienced owner and investor in marinas I am very pleased that the GMI through its partner the MIA; and in conjunction with KPMG Sydney is conducting this one day Marina Investment Seminar. This is a long overdue initiative both from a national and a global perspective and it will bring together world class specialists in marina investment. The day will provide marina owners, buyers, sellers, lenders and related specialists with a high level interactive forum to better inform major investment decisions in the marina industry.'

The full day program will provide detailed information, analysis and discussion relating to developments in the global and local marina sector and significant issues which influence the marketability and value of marina assets. Topics covered will include trends impacting on marina assets; optimisation of marina operations including revenue and costs; principles which influence the value of marina assets, debt funding and considerations when buying or selling marina assets.

Speakers will include specialists in the fields of finance, transactions, valuations, securitisation and marina management. Matthew McCarron, a Partner within KPMG’s Private Enterprise Practice will play a lead role in the seminar. He has extensive experience leading a variety of transaction advisory engagements involving marina and other recreational assets. Another presenter is UK based Mick Bettesworth who delivers marina consultancy services across the globe. He previously held senior positions within MDL, Europe’s largest owner and operator of marinas.

MIA President Andrew Chapman said delivery of the Marina Investment Seminar is an important milestone for the marina industry. 'MIA has a well-established track record of delivering globally accredited marina education and training at operational and management levels in Australia and Asia. This seminar is an important step up to inform owners, investors and public and private sector specialists involved in our industry about assessing and maximizing the value of marina assets. With GMI support this Seminar will also be delivered in other countries over the next 18 months.'

MIA Executive Officer Colin Bransgrove said the interactive Seminar is limited to 23 participants. 'It is expected that the Seminar will book out quickly with interest already expressed from across Australia and Asia.' Seminar details can be found on the MIA website.

Victorian Marina Industry hit with above average taxes and charges
Victorian marinas tax and costs accounted for a whopping 61.2% of gross revenue compared to national average of 44%. Victorian marinas lease, tax and payroll costs accounted for a whopping 61.2% of gross revenue compared to the national average of 44%. Tasmania and WA were lowest at 37% and 38% respectively. The research was conducted by the Recreational Marine Research Centre, Michigan State University using industry data from the 2012-2013 financial year.

NSW Environment Minister awards 'Fish Friendly' Marina Accreditations
Three marinas in Sydney’s north have today been awarded ‘Fish Friendly’ accreditation. Three marinas in Sydney’s north have today been awarded ‘Fish Friendly’ accreditation by The Hon. Rob Stokes, Member for Pittwater and NSW Minister for the Environment. The presentation was held at The Quays Marina, Church Point which together with the RPAYC, Newport and Empire Marina Bobbin Head, located in the Ku-ring-gai National Park was recognised with the accreditation.

Research highlights marinas economic, social and environmental benefit
Independent research carried out for the Marina Industry Association (MIA) has highlighted a wide range of benefits. The research was conducted by the Michigan State University based Recreation Marine Research Centre and is summarised in a 130 page report called the ‘2013 Health of the Australian Marina Industry Survey’.
