As the Sydney International Boat Show approaches the industry continues to advise details of the products and services that visitors can expect to see at the show. Tickets are now on sale online.

This week the BIA have announced the appearance of the on-water speed world record holding Ken Warby. Attempting to break his father's record, David Warby and the Spirit of Australia II will be on display, which Ken has designed to be almost 50% more powerful than his original 1978 world record breaker.

Australia's world-class motor yacht builder, Riviera, will present the World Premiere of the latest model in its outstanding Sports Motor Yacht collection, the 39. The new 39 Sports Motor Yacht will headline Riviera's on-water showcase of 11 exquisite motor yachts at the Cockle Bay marina complex.

Motor yacht manufacturer Maritimo is now set to hit the high seas with boat shows all along the east coast between the Gold Coast and Sydney before the X60 is featured at the Sydney International Boat Show in August. Barry-Cotter said development has also commenced on the next model within the X-Series Range, a Maritimo X50 - which the company is closely guarding until its introduction at Sydney International Boat Show with its world premiere scheduled for 2019.

People in the news include Tibor Bece GME's General Manager of Research and Innovation who has been recognised by his peer group as the 2018 winner of the ARCIA NSW Division's Industry Excellence award for his significant contribution to the Australian radio communications industry.

d'Albora announces that Suzanne Davies has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of their seven strong marina management group. Suzanne has spent the last 12 years as General Manager of the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, one of Sydney's premier yacht clubs and one of the largest marinas in NSW.

New products this week include the award winning Ewincher that allows you to perform one manoeuvre after another with ease. Ewincher is a power-assisted handle that makes winching much easier. It's designed to perfectly assist sailing manoeuvres without altering your natural movements. Increase your power and speed with very limited effort while maintaining an ideal position.

While FLIR Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: FLIR) announced the introduction of the Raymarine® Axiom™ XL line of multifunction displays (MFDs) and the immediate availability of two Axiom XL models. Designed for premium yachts and glass bridge installations, Axiom XL displays offer the largest size in the Axiom family and the superior performance and elegant simplicity that the award-winning Axiom line has delivered since its introduction.

Event sponsors have had a good week and Zhik are delighted to congratulate Charles Caudrelier and the Dongfeng Race Team for their epic victory in the Volvo Ocean Race last week, and team AkzoNobel for an incredibly hard fought race taking fourth place.

Partnering for the first time with not just one but two Volvo Ocean Race teams as Official Clothing Partner was a big step for the dynamic young company, which has expanded its technical apparel range for the performance yachting and offshore market.

Organisers of the reborn Newport Coffs Coast Yacht Race, sponsored by Pantaenius, are looking to double their fleet size this year, with the event now tagged "the right race, to the right place, at the right time". At its official launch this week in Coffs Harbour, on the NSW mid-north coast, Race Director Rob Brown OAM said there was great potential to rebuild entry numbers to beyond that of 2016, which attracted 42 boats and more than 400 sailors.

And if you are intending to compete at the Audi Hamilton Island Race Week this year, look no further than Whitsunday Holidays to provide accommodation for yourself and the crew.

Whitsunday Holidays still have a limited number of residences available for competitors to take time out, get a great night's sleep and feel totally refreshed for the next day's racing. But be quick, locations are limited and will not last long.
