Butterfly Bay, Hook Island, Whitsundays
Located at the northern end of the Whitsundays archipelago, Butterfly Bay is also situated on the northern side of Hook Island. Here you will find yourself surrounded by a turquoise and emerald sparkling lagoon, colourful coral reef and pristine white sandy beaches.
Butterfly Bay has some of the best snorkelling on offer in the Whitsundays. Being a designated green zone, this extensive reef is protected and untouched. You have the chance to spot hard corals, giant Maori wrasse, friendly bat fish (which you can hand feed!) as well as colonies of butterflies in the mangroves that the bay is named after.
The depth in the bay ranges from 6 - 9m, and with her mud holding (just keep an eye out for coral bommies) you can have a peaceful night sleep in the prevailing south-easterly winds. Butterfly Bay is bliss!
