Today, on June 21st at 1.00 p.m., Sergio Davì left Palermo to undertake his fifth sea adventure by RIB (rigid inflatable boat), once again sailing from the Marina Arenella. A new charming sea challenge as much ambitious as extreme.

Ice Rib Challenge

This is the name of the adventure from Palermo to New York. Around 7,000 nautical miles along the coasts of Northwest Europe and the glaciers of Iceland and Greenland towards Canada and the USA.

Captain Davì will sail mainly alone, with a pair of guests that will take turns. He will sail on board of a RIB Nuova Jolly of the model Prince 38cc, alias "Nautilus Explorer", powered by two Suzuki DF350A (dual prop) outboard engines and equipped with branded components of excellence by Quick and a Simrad navigation and control system with two NSS multi-function displays, a AP44 pilot controller, RS communication equipment and C-MAP cartography.

Several trade and institutional partners decided to support the "Ice RIB Challenge" by sharing its aims and themes. Suzuki and the CNR (Italian Council of Research), as well as Confartigianato Sicilia (Sicilian confederation for craftsmanship) and the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Sicily (IZS Sicilia) are supporting the eco-sustainability and the fight against micro-plastic pollution; the Municipality of Palermo is promoting the cultural themes, with particular attention to the issue of hospitality that has always concerned both Palermo and New York.

Among the major partners is also Cipolla Gioiellieri, an historical reality in Palermo that has always been passionate about boating and Captain Davì's adventures.

The "Cantate Omnes" was also present to greet Captain Davì, a polyphonic choir directed by Gianfranco Giordano that accompanied the ceremony of delivery of the Peace torch. The torch has been delivered by the Consul of Brazil Mrs. Rosalia Calamita and the Consul of Chile Mr. Vincenzo Chiriaco. Captain Davì, elected "torch bearer of the oceans" for the Peace Run, will carry the peace torch along its route up to New York to deliver it to president Salil Wilson or Mayor Bill De Blasio.
