With employment figures showing a record rise in December with 50,000 jobs being added in Australia, the only way to go in 2021 is forward. An announcement from the Boating Industry of Australia regarding the plans for this year's boat shows will be posted to our websites soon. Sydney and Brisbane will be conducted under a Covid plan while Adelaide and the Rosehill shows have been postponed to 2022.

News from the MIA (Marina Industry Association) is that they will be rolling out a number of new and online courses in 2021. The calendar of events is listed and participants can register their interest now by enrolling here.

New boats to be announced in 2021 include a line up from Team Windcraft. Just before the end of 2020, Sealine presented two new models, the C335 and the C335v, that combine flexibility, space and luxury in an exemplary manner. In the newly established 33-foot class, the customer has the choice between an inboard engine up to 440hp and a top speed of 31 knots, or twin outboards of 300hp, and up to 40 knots top speed. Every interior design element of the two-family cruisers has been redeveloped to make the available space smarter and more luxurious than ever before in a 33ft boat. The saloon, for example, has been equipped with a flexible passenger seat that completes the seating area around the dining table when folded down. High-quality work surfaces in the new galley are divided between the cooking area and the sink, and can be folded up as required.

Also, from the same distributor, are new Dehlers and Moody yachts. The world-renowned Moody yard presents its new deck saloon yacht: the Moody 41 DS. It has just been voted winner of Cruising Yacht of the Year for 2020 by the British Yachting Awards. In proven tradition, but equipped with latest technologies and design innovations, this unique yacht stands for a luxurious ambience and sense of space, usually only seen on multihulls.

Dehler is pleased to present its new 38SQ model, dynamically developed out of the successful Dehler 38. At Dehler, SQ traditionally stands for Speed and Quality, and thus for perfect sailing characteristics and modern design. The new Dehler 38SQ has been given a new colour and light concept, a more varied interior layout, as well as powerful improvements to the rig and cockpit - all while keeping the boat as simple to use and fun as ever.

More traditionally a new breed of timber boats is the speciality of the craftspeople at the Wooden Boat Shop, renowned for classic coastal cruisers that combine timber, traditional techniques and high-tech composites. Based in Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula, the Wooden Boat Shop, under the direction of boat builder, Tim Phillips and a team of 22, is a hive of activity, crafting a range of timber boats for savvy clients seeking totally bespoke vessels. Designed by Andy Dovell, the range spans 28 to 50 feet and each has a unique name: Kooyong 28, Cheviot 32, Shearwater 38, Efficient 44 and the Deal Island 50.

Making up for the lack of boat show exposure Whittley Queensland (QLD) is excited to announce the new dealership's free One Year Celebration Boat Show Weekend Sale on the 20th and 21st of February 2021 at The Boat Works in Coomera. The event will feature on water demonstrations on selected new 2021 Whittley models, a free BBQ, off water display and mega once a year deals across the entire range of locally made Whittley fiberglass boats.

Further evidence of the resilience of the industry is illustrated by the appointment of Luke Webster as head of logistics company Peters and May. Responding to an increase in demand from the growing Asian yachting and maritime markets, global marine transport and logistics provider Peters & May has appointed a new regional manager to oversee operations in the area. Luke Webster, who has been responsible for establishing and developing the firm's German office in Hamburg since 2014, as well as supervising parts of Asia during 2020, will now head up all Peters & May activity in the region. Highly experienced in global transport logistics, Webster has worked for Peters & May since 2006.

While 2020 has been a tough year for many companies including the marine media where a number of boating magazines have closed due to financial difficulties, our digital platforms continue to grow. During the past 30 days Sail-World.com has been accessed by over 500,000 unique visitors globally and the numbers continue to increase. With the ability to report news within hours of it happening, more boating participants are attracted to the regional and global quality of our posting whether it be sailing, powerboating, fishing or marine business.

This augers well for companies wanting to expand their exposure, create product information and increase inquiries. As we emerge from the pandemic, thanks to the vaccine roll-out, its now time to look at the pent-up demand and ways of increasing sales during 2021.
