We start the news with the promotion of the Melbourne Boat Show. The long awaited, much anticipated, 60th Melbourne Boat Show is set to launch this October at Docklands.

The Boating Industry Association of Victoria is proud to announce the 20-23 October event, at its new location, extending the full length of Newquay Promenade at Docklands, and onto the Melbourne City Marina and its surrounds. It is with thanks to the City of Melbourne, the Victorian State Government, Development Victoria, Better Boating Victoria, the Victorian Fishing Authority, Melbourne City Marina, and over 60 fantastic exhibitors, for backing this event, and getting it up after a three-year hiatus.

Overseas, the largest marine trades show takes place in November. The METSTRADE Show in Amsterdam is the world's largest B2B trade exhibition of marine equipment, materials and systems attracting 1,300 exhibitors and around 15,000 visitors.

ATL Composites, Australia and M.u.H. von der Linden GmbH based in Wesel, Germany, will attend METS 2022, showcasing the DuFLEX, DuraKore and Featherlight panels range, manufactured by their joint venture company, vdL Composites GmbH, which offers lightweight construction solutions preferred by some of Europe's leading boat builders and design houses.

And from the French show we received this report from Ensign Yachts: "We are happy to announce that the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival was a huge success! The festival has recently finished up, spanning six days. Ensign Yachts' brands featured very well with representation from Bavaria (Motor & Sail), Nautitech Catamarans, Rhea Marine, Tofinou, Wauquiez, Italia Yachts, and Bering Yachts. With over 600 exhibitors, the festival attracted a wide range of interested boaties and potential buyers."

Back in Australia, The Boating Industry Association has partnered with the Australian Industry Trade College (AITC) to establish the Boating Industry Academy, the first industry-driven program for high school students wishing to pursue a career in the boating and marine industries. The Academy is for career-minded young people in Year 10 or 11 (2023) looking to work in the boating and marine industry. Students spend five weeks a term in school at the AITC Robina campus on the Gold Coast and up to 28 weeks a year in the boating industry at the Coomera marine precinct.

The program is designed to develop employability skills via work experience and immersion in a wide range of functions within the industry. This opportunity for exposure provides students with a solid base of key skills and industry knowledge before commencing a school-based apprenticeship/traineeship in Term 3 of Year 11. The specialist program will start at the Robina campus in January 2023 with a view to moving to a Coomera base, in the heart of the largest marine precinct in the Southern Hemisphere by mid-year.

In Asia, Beneteau and Lagoon Catamarans were awarded several prizes in the 2022 Asian Marine & Boating Award Ceremony on 16th September in Shanghai, China. The event aims to give credits to those brands that have shown noteworthy achievements over the past year by offering three award opportunities, namely The Boat Industry Brand Annual Award, Watersports Promotion Annual Award and Environmental Pioneer Annual Award.

Hosted by the committee of China Shanghai International Boat Show, the gala dinner brought together a diverse group of nautical leaders including boat brands, manufacturers, industry professionals, media and so on, adding the relevance to this glamorous occasion.

In New Zealand the NZMOA Marinas and Boatyard Conference for 2022 took place in the Marlborough Sounds and Nelson. It was another fully packed three days of learning, thinking, seeing and networking with marina and boatyard colleagues. "Congratulations on the outcome - it was a great event, with pertinent content, great networking opportunities and enjoyed by everyone who I spoke to," said Suzanne Davies, Chief Executive Officer, Marina Industries Association.

"An impressive event. It's not often an industry comes together with such commitment to being better," said Tony Gardner, Managing Director, Archetype Leadership +Teams.

In Perth, HiTech Marine in the northern Perth suburb of Wangara has just achieved the ultimate. The dealership has been recognised with Mercury Marine's coveted "Premier" Dealer status, becoming the first WA business to carry the mantle. Premier accreditation is the highest recognition that a Mercury Marine Service business can achieve and is only granted to those dealerships that excel in presentation, technical training, tooling and diagnostics equipment, along with exceptional levels of customer service.

New boats this week include a model from Fountaine Pajot, who have unveiled the jewel in the crown of its sailing catamaran range. The NEW 80 is a superb superyacht sailing catamaran that redefines luxury and innovation while delivering astonishing performance. The NEW 80 boasts expansive living areas throughout the yacht, including fore and aft cockpits that enjoy direct saloon access. The Australian Dealer is Multihull Solutions.

And Garmin released a new product this week: the inReach® Mini 2 Marine Bundle, a satellite communication device with two-way messaging and SOS capabilities, bundled with a boat-friendly mount that provides quick-and-easy access in a moment's notice. Rugged, compact and purpose-built for life off the grid, the inReach Mini 2 comes packed with features that give mariners an added sense of security on the water such as two-way text messaging, location tracking and weather updates thanks to the global Iridium® satellite network.

In an emergency, inReach Mini 2 users can trigger an interactive SOS message to the Garmin International Emergency Response Coordination Center, a 24/7 staffed professional emergency response coordination center.

Stay safe,
