US Sailing today announced the appointment of Carol Ewing to its Board of Directors, bringing decades of leadership, operational expertise, and deep involvement in the sport of sailing at the highest levels.

Ewing, a lifelong sailor and accomplished race official, has been a driving force in regatta management and race administration both nationally and internationally for more than 40 years. Her extensive experience spans roles as regatta organizer, coordinator, scorer, Principal Race Officer (PRO), and event chairman across a wide range of classes and competitive formats.

"Carol's breadth of experience and commitment to the sport make her an outstanding addition to the Board," said Henry Brauer, President of US Sailing's Board of Directors. "She brings a unique combination of hands-on race management expertise, leadership within yacht club governance, and a long-standing dedication to advancing sailing in the United States."

Ewing has played a pivotal role in some of the sport's most prominent events. She served for many years as regatta coordinator for the World Cup Series Miami, one of the premier Olympic-class sailing events in the world, from its inception in 1987. She has also been deeply involved with the Southern Ocean Racing Conference (SORC), continuing her contributions to its Islands in the Stream Series.

Her leadership extends beyond event management. At Coral Reef Yacht Club, Ewing served for eight years in key committee roles before joining the Board of Directors and ultimately becoming the club's first female Commodore (2000-2001), a milestone achievement reflecting her influence and respect within the sailing community.

In recent years, Ewing has served as PRO for numerous high-performance and youth classes, including GL52, M32, 69F, Star, and Snipe fleets, as well as US Sailing youth classes such as 29er, Nacra 15, iQFOiL, I420, ILCA, and kiteboarding. She is also recognized for her proficiency with emerging race management technologies, including robotic marks and RaceSense systems.

In addition to her on-the-water leadership, Ewing has contributed to the sport through technical innovation—developing websites and regatta scoring platforms for major events and organizations, including Helly Hansen, Bacardi, US Sailing, and the Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta, which hosts more than 500 competitors annually. She currently serves as the Melges 24 North American representative, supporting class governance and championship development.

Professionally, Ewing is the owner and operator of Lightning Printing, a business she has led since 1991, following earlier roles in business management and operations.

"I'm honored to join the US Sailing Board of Directors and to continue giving back to a sport that has meant so much to me," said Ewing. "I look forward to supporting the organization's mission and helping strengthen sailing across all levels."

Ewing's appointment reinforces US Sailing's commitment to experienced, diverse leadership dedicated to growing participation, supporting sailors, and advancing the sport nationwide.
