Royal recognition for Dura in triple crown success

by Dura Composites 6 May 07:33 PDT

A unique trio of honours across innovation, trade and sustainability

Dura Composites, the leading UK designer, manufacturer and supplier of low carbon walkways, has been awarded a King's Award for Enterprise 2026 in recognition of its outstanding achievements in Sustainability.

The company is one of only 185 organisations nationally to receive the prestigious accolade this year, widely regarded as the highest official UK honour for business excellence.

The award recognises Dura's continued leadership in developing low-carbon composite infrastructure solutions, including its pioneering work in closed-loop Glass Reinforced Polymer (GRP) repurposing.

GRP is a durable composite material used to manufacture infrastructure elements such as walkways, rail station platforms and access structures. Dura's breakthrough technology enables materials to be recovered and then reintroduced into the manufacturing cycle of future products.

Dura has now received King's Awards on four occasions across three categories - International Trade (2017), Innovation (2020 and 2024), and now Sustainability [2026] - demonstrating the firm's consistent excellence across commercial performance, technological development and low carbon ethos.

Headquartered in Essex, Dura operates internationally across rail, infrastructure and industrial markets, supporting asset owners and contractors as they respond to increasing pressure to reduce embodied carbon, improve lifecycle performance and demonstrate responsible material stewardship.

Stuart Burns, Managing Director of Dura, said: "Receiving a King's Award is always a proud moment, but to achieve recognition across three different categories within the last 10 years is something that is particularly special.

"It reflects the long term decisions we've taken as a business: investing in research and development, re-engineering our products to become lower carbon, and challenging the assumption that high performance infrastructure must end its life as waste.

"As collective responsibility for sustainability continues to rise, we believe the future of infrastructure lies in designing carbon out at source, extending asset life and enabling circular recovery. This award recognises the progress we've made in turning those principles into practical, scalable solutions."

The King's Awards for Enterprise, now in their 60th year, remain the UK's most prestigious business honours, permitting winners to use the King's Awards Emblem for five years.
