The new EU AML frame, brokerage and leasing lawful practices and ICC arbitration/ADR on the table of the latest edition of the Benetti Legal Symposium, a now traditional gathering of the main international yachting law firms and consultants.
The event was once again endorsed by the ICC - International Chamber of Commerce.
The fourth Benetti Legal Symposium, the event conceived and promoted by Azimut|Benetti's legal department in collaboration with the company management, has concluded. Since 2023, the event has been a calendar landmark for professionals from international yachting lawyers and counsels, offering a unique opportunity to discuss the most relevant regulatory developments, recurrent issues of negotiation of yachting contracts and promoting the best practices for the main players of the industry.
In the three previous editions, where Benetti's sales management was also present, the discussion proved to support the pursuit of faster and more efficient contractual negotiation, last year, for the third edition, the event received the patronage of the ICC - International Chamber of Commerce - which participated in the Legal Discussion with three of its representatives with the aim of exploring the benefits of ICC arbitration for the yachting disputes and starting a group brainstorm on a possible revision of the traditional arbitration clauses in yacht construction contracts.
This year, for the fourth edition, again under the patronage of ICC, its representatives followed up on case studies about the ICC arbitration proceedings and ADR means, with guests reporting their experience about starting using ICC arbitration for yachting disputes following its presentation at the previous Benetti Legal Symposium.
The legal discussion included an attempt to set up a chart of shared principles and best practices applicable to nautical brokers worldwide and a presentation and discussion on the new EU AML regulation with high impact on the yachting industry and about the Italian finance nautical lease as an opportunity and a VAT optimisation.
Georgia Agù, the Group General Counsel of Azimut|Benetti, underlined the importance of the initiative: "The smoothing of negotiation of contract of construction and sale of yachts and the experienced progress in several practices of the industry prove the value of this annual opportunity to meet, discuss and share the critical and recurrent legal topics and issues of the sector. I strongly believe in this initiative that Benetti is transforming in a valuable tradition for the major legal experts in the industry."
The 2026 edition took place on May 4th and 5th between Firenze and the Benetti shipyard in Livorno, welcoming more than 60 professionals.
