Monthly High Tide Flooding Outlook - August 2026
Although mean sea level is generally higher in late summer and early fall, due in part to warmer water temperatures and changing weather patterns, only a few U.S. harbors are likely to see flooding this month.
On the West Coast, San Diego and Santa Monica are likely to see high water events, while flooding is also possible in La Jolla, Los Angeles, and North Spit. High water is possible in all Hawaiian harbors this month, especially on the new moon on August 12 and the full moon on August 27, but flooding is likely in the ports of Kahului, Hilo, and Kawaihae. Elsewhere across the country, flooding is possible in only three harbors: Fort Pulaski, GA; Cedar Key, FL; and Bay Waveland Yacht Club, MS.
Note that a harbor's absence from this list, despite it being in proximity to a harbor that is (for example: Montauk, New York, and Woods Hole, Massachusetts, both of which are near harbors that are listed as seeing possible flooding, don't make the list themselves), does not mean that flooding is not possible. Instead, it simply means that NOAA either does not have a sufficiently validated model to make an accurate prediction, or that the local hydrodynamics makes such a prediction impossible.
Make sure to print out the tide chart for your favorite harbor so that you are prepared, no matter what the coastal conditions end up delivering.
