Dear [recipient name]
It is always refreshing to hear of an Australian boat builder winning a government tender and that's exactly what Steber International of Taree, NSW, did recently.
Steber has contracted with Thales Australia (prime contractor) to deliver five 38ft support vessels to the Australian Government. Senator Payne said: "Steber vessels will be configured as unmanned surface vessels and mine countermeasure support boats that deploy systems to protect our navy assets."
Staying with government matters, BRP announced that its Evinrude E-TEC engines are compliant to new Australian emissions standards. Australian exhaust emissions standards for outdoor power equipment and marine engines were finalized in December 2017. The standards will be phased in to allow the industry time to transition. As of July 1, 2018, new high polluting outdoor power equipment and marine engines, such as conventional carburetted two-stroke outboard engines, can no longer be imported into Australia. By July 1, 2019 only clean-technology outdoor power equipment and marine engines can be supplied to the Australian market.
Riviera continue to extend their marketing campaign overseas and have announced they will Premiere their blue water 43 Open Flybridge motor yacht in conjunction with newly appointed Riviera and Belize dealer Unimat Precious at the Japan International Boat Show in Yokohama over four days from March 8.
In Singapore, the largest showcase yet of Australian innovation and ingenuity will be on display at Asia Pacific Maritime (APM) 2018 with companies returning once again to promote their superior skills, expertise and the quality that makes the Australian commercial marine sector world renown. Well known for representing the most high quality and innovative products and services, APM (14th – 16th March) will, once again, see Australian businesses impress the commercial industry.
Closer to home tickets for the 30th Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) are officially on sale, and it's never been easier to get on-board with an array of ticket and transport options available. The 2018 Show will showcase and celebrate the industry's latest and greatest leading brands, with hundreds of boats and thousands of marine products on show across four action-packed days.
In Victoria the Yanmar Wooden Boatshop Wooden Boat Festival of Geelong has long been associated with the arts and culture community. With a primary school art competition taking place at each event, held every two years, the Festival provides an opportunity for even the youngest of artists to get into the maritime spirit.
In 2018, the Wooden Boat Festival arts component has expanded to include an art exhibition and sale by local Geelong artists, to be held at the historic Geelong Club. As part of the event, visitors can participate in an "Art & Heritage Walk", departing from the Wooden Boat Festival Information booth, located at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club. This 90 minute tour will include a visit to the Geelong Club and to the Geelong Art Gallery, while hearing about the history of Geelong and viewing some maritime outdoor artwork along the way. The walks will take place on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th March at 10am and 2pm, and on Monday 12th March at 10am and 1pm.
