While Marine Business World revolves around the day to day happenings in the Australian marine industry it is always interesting to know what's happening in overseas companies that have Australian connections.

Beneteau have announced a new Sales Director who will handle the brand's international commercial strategy. Luca Brancaleon who qualified in Law at the University of Parma in 1996, has solid sales management experience in international multi-brand positions. An expert in languages and foreign cultures, his vision of the profession is largely geared towards customer expectations, to which he responds with a rigorous sales approach.

We also include practical information provided by industry members and this week Harken Australia's Managing Director, Grant Pellew, gives some practical advice regarding winch servicing. A question the company often gets asked is how often should winch servicing be done and how hard is it.

Everybody knows that winches need servicing. Rather less are comfortable with the task. In fact it is a very straightforward process that requires only a modicum of practical aptitude. The most common questions are answered in this article.

Marine history is also a subject that doesn't get covered often so here's a piece on Dirk Hartog, the mariner who made the first documented European landing on Australia's west coast. This week the Australian National Maritime Museum welcomed the first European artefact to appear on Australian soil, the Dirk Hartog Plate, to Sydney on special loan from the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
