John Bulmer | We start with news that Steber International could be vying for two NSW State Business Awards covering export and innovation following recent award wins on the Mid North Coast. The awards, for Excellence in Innovation and Excellence in Export were presented at the 2017 MidCoast Business Awards, which puts Steber into regional judging categories and ultimately consideration for NSW State acknowledgement. I've known Alan Steber and his wife Deborah for many years beginning when I was working with Work Boat World Magazine in the 80's. Stebercraft as it was known then, have survived the years as a major Australian boat builder with a wide cross section of builds covering leisure and commercial craft, A success story founded on a quality product and dedicated management.

Another Australian company Zhik, the innovative sailing apparel specialist, have been appointed as official technical clothing partner to Dongfeng Race Team in the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18. Finishing third in the 2014-15 edition of the race, Dongfeng Race Team has a clear objective to sail to the best of the team's ability and compete at the highest level.

The next edition of the race will see the team take on three times as many Southern Ocean miles as in the previous edition and encounter the most extreme weather conditions known to mankind.

Australian Sailing President Matt Allen has been elected to the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) Executive Board at the AOC AGM held in Sydney today. Matt Allen is one of seven elected members from nominations received from the national bodies of sports on the Olympic Program. The AOC Executive will be headed by John Coates (President) alongside Helen Brownlee and Ian Chesterman (Vice-Presidents) who were re-elected today.
