Queensland Events, new marine wholesale premises, tribute to a legend | Gold Coast International Boat Show & Marine Expo 2017 Gold Coast Marine Expo | This week all the attention will be on the Gold Coast Boat Show and Marine Expo which opens on Friday 17th March and runs through until Sunday the 19th. The show will host a $150 million marine showcase, Queensland's biggest boat show with a record 'Fleet of Firsts' and more diverse marine displays than ever.
Over 20,000 visitors are expected to attend the three day event. “Real boating enthusiasts will come to Coomera from around Australia and the world to see all the new-year releases first right here in the heart of the largest recreational boat-building facilities and shipyards in the Southern Hemisphere,” said Event and Marketing Manager Emma Brown.
I will be at the show on Friday and Saturday and happy to chat with exhibitors and visitors alike.

Two months down the track another event taking place in the sunshine state is the Australian International Marine Export and Superyacht Industry Conference (ASMEX). Global marine insurance company Pantaenius Sail and Motor Yacht Insurance will be working with the event organisers the AIMEX Group. Pantaenius Managing Director, Martin Baum, will address the conference theme Staying Relevant in Today's Global Business Environment, by presenting on trends affecting the global superyacht industry.

The conference will run from the 22 - 24 May 2017 at the Intercontinental Resort Sanctuary Cove, conveniently held in the days leading up to the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show which runs from the 25 - 28 May 2017.
Industry people in the news are Matt Carroll, CEO of Australian Sailing who has resigned to take up the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Olympic Committee.
Since joining Australian Sailing in November 2014, Matt has led the organisation through its most important governance and management reforms in the sports' history, which will have far reaching impacts on the growth and sustainability of sailing. We wish him well in his new role.
Australian Marine Wholesale Director, Errol Cain is poised to toast the opening of his bigger and better Superstore, still at The Boat Works in Coomera Marine Precinct, but five times the size!

“We have outgrown our previous location, driven by customer demand, the addition of new products and an increase in traffic here at The Boat Works,” said Mr Cain, who has owned and operated AM Wholesale for six years.
On a sadder note we farewell Eddie Buzien who passed away toward the end of February. I knew Eddie and his brother Frits when they managed their boat building business Buizen Yachts in Terrey Hills in Sydney's North East. The name changed to Mastercraft Marine in the 90s.

Eddie was always happy to have a chat and quietly discuss his latest build. Never flustered he was a complete gentleman and a consummate boat builder. I feel privileged to have met him and on behalf of many industry members pass on sincere condolences to his wife Jeanette, son Tony, daughter Tanya, brother Frits and extended family.
