First up is the Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC) who have been awarded International Clean Marina accreditation level 3. The environmental accreditation provides participating Clubs and marinas with a template for environmental best practice.

On the NSW Central Coast Koolewong Marina has been accredited as both a Clean Marina Level 3 and a Fish Friendly Marina. The internationally recognised accreditation is administered by the Marina Industries Association and participants are audited by qualified independent auditors. Koolewong Marina is a newly developed modern marina located on Brisbane Water 10 minutes' drive from Gosford. The marina has 50 berths for vessels up to 30 metres with draft to 5.5m. Facilities include pump out, shore power to 63 amps, security, guest amenities and a restaurant.

People receiving awards included Marina industry icon Michael Jarvin. Michael has received the NSW Government's Maritime Medal in recognition of his invaluable advice, support and networking in the Australian marine industry.

R Marine Sydney take home the prestigious ‘Riviera and Belize Dealership of the Year' title at the annual Riviera and Belize dealer awards night hosted during the Sydney International Boat Show. This year's 50th Sydney International Boat Show marked several achievements for the leading Riviera and Belize dealership in Australia.

New products also received awards and in the USA the Simrad® GO9 display was recognized at the West Marine Very Important Vendor (VIV) Awards presented at this year's 2017 VIV Conference. The chartplotter was selected as the Best New Product of the Year, and Navico, parent company to the Simrad brand of marine electronics was selected for driving Best Store Support.

Important news for all outboard resellers emanated from parliament this week. This morning in Canberra, Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg tabled the 'Product Emissions Standards Bill' that will bring Australia in line with world emissions standards for small engines from outboards to lawn mowers. In the Marine segment, the laws will cover any petrol (Spark Ignition) engine. Outboards, inboards, and PWC's.
The Bill is planned to progress through Parliament over the coming months, with both the Bill and the detailed Rules becoming Law by December 2017. There won't be an immediate start, instead, industry will have until 20 June 2018 to cease imports and a further year to clear stocks.

If you want to find out how useful an outboard motor would have been in 79 AD, time is running out for Sydneysiders to experience the Australian National Maritime's international exhibition, Escape from Pompeii, which closes on 3 September. The incredibly popular exhibition features ancient objects from Pompeii, Herculaneum and sites around the Bay Naples as well as some of Italy's leading institutions including a rostrum from a Roman warship recovered from the site of a famous sea battle.
