Sydney International Boat Show augers well for industry members

Sydney International Boat Show  SIBS
You may have noticed that last week's newsletter did not eventuate. A Sydney Boat Show attendance that lasted a lot longer than this participant had anticipated meant that we ran out of time and for that I apologise. However the show was an eye opener. Back at the Darling Harbour venue, the weather, and while a little chilly at times and just a hint of a shower, it was mostly held under blue skies and provided an ideal setting for the on water and exhibition hall combo. The new Sydney International Convention Centre is a state of the art event venue and has a space age feel about it. The show managed to absorb both the first and fourth floors, the first consumer show to take the full show allocation space.

From early reports the show was an unmitigated success. I spoke to Peter Hrones of e yachts who told me he could not get enough boats from Europe to meet demand. Multihull Solutions sold nine multis at the show, the best show they have ever had. Australian luxury motor yacht manufacturer, Maritimo, has recorded strong sales results and interest and had dealer partners from around the world in attendance as part of its international expansion roll-out.

Things definitely looked rosy for the industry right now. I am sure that Queensland marine members exhibiting at the Brisbane Boat Show have taken note ahead of their boat show in two weeks.

The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club - winners of the Club of the Year  RPAYC

Marinas play an integral part of the boating scene and their industry organisation the MIA have been especially active over the past few years instigating industry standards and making awards to the companies that have reached their high achievement levels. The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club was announced as the Club of the Year. The awards recognise excellence and leadership across the marine industry and provide valuable benchmarks for industry and the wider community. At the same award ceremony, Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC) has been awarded International Clean Marina accreditation level 3.

The environmental accreditation provides participating Clubs and marinas with a template for environmental best practice. In Melbourne two inner-city marinas, both assets of Melbourne City Council, have been awarded 5 Gold Anchors at the Marine17 International Conference and Trade Exhibition.

New boats are commonly offered with everything from decorative underwater lighting to built-in cup holders.
