Take overs are in the news this week with US sailmaker Quantum buying out Hood Sails. Quantum Sails announced that it has completed an agreement with Hood Sailmakers in Newport, RI to acquire the company's sail making rights and manufacturing assets. The acquisition, which includes occupancy of Hood's world headquarters in RI, will increase Quantum's global sail making capacity and provide a new home base for Quantum's sales and service operations in the northeaster region of the US.

On the power front, Volvo Penta has signed an agreement to become the major owner of innovative premium outboard motor manufacturer, Seven Marine, enabling the Swedish company to extend its scope of world-leading integrated propulsion systems.
Just three weeks to go until the 50th Sydney International Boat Shows opens on the 3rd August 2017. In what will be a special year, the show returns fully to Darling Harbour coinciding with the completion of the new, purpose built International Conference Centre-Sydney facility. The event is already the largest Boat Show in the Southern Hemisphere, and the return to its traditional home will proclaim a show almost double the size of what visitors experienced last year. It will also be the first consumer show that will occupy 100% of the available exhibition space.

The show is not only an opportunity for marine companies to exhibit their products, business seminars are available and one that looks particularly interesting is the digital seminar run by Boat Deck and Mainsheet Media.
