Marina industry icon Michael Jarvin has received the NSW Government’s Maritime Medal in recognition of his invaluable advice, support and networking in the Australian marine industry.

The Maritime Medal and certificate were presented to Michael Jarvin by the Hon Melinda Pavey, Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight at the opening of the 2017 Sydney International Boat Show.

The presentation acknowledged a remarkable 50-year history which commenced in 1967. As a young lad at Woollahra Primary School, Michael Jarvin was awarded a community service award by the local member, the Hon John Barraclough. As a part of that award, Michael Jarvin and others were taken to the Sydney Boat Show.

Fittingly, the Sydney Boat Show means so much to Michael Jarvin. As an acknowledged authority in the Australian and international marine industry, Michael Jarvin has served on numerous boards, committees and inquiries. He is a long serving Board member of the Boating Industry Association of both NSW and Australia.

Michael Jarvin is a major authority in the marina industry and consults to the leading marina operators principally in NSW and Queensland, but also throughout Australia and Asia.

In his acceptance speech, Michael Jarvin spoke with great passion and knowledge about the essential link between Government and the industry.

“Over the long journey I have seen an amazing coming together, coming apart, coming together of Government and the industry,” Jarvin said.

“Today, we have joint vision that requires some investment of our boaters’ funds in coastal infrastructure.South of Sydney is the untapped boating future. My friends know that I am passionate about developing infrastructure and most of you know that there are facilities on the south coast sitting there with approvals in place that just need the support of Government to develop.”

Michael Jarvin speaks with great authority and experience. He was heavily involved in the 1980’s when Government built some fabulous facilities at Port Stephens, Coffs Harbour and further up the NSW coast.

With a lifetime of dedication to the marine industry and the development and operation of marinas, Michael Jarvin is just as energetic today as he was at the start of this journey. There is still plenty of work to be done, developing new marinas and delivering better facilities to boaters.

Michael Jarvin is the Managing Director of Advanced Marina Management, a Sydney based marina consultancy.
