Dear Recipient Name

The Biden administration issued a press release announcing the Federal Register Notice (FRN) on the proposed modifications to the Section 301 tariffs on imports from China and limited exclusion process for certain machinery - which the administration disclosed this month.

The comment period opened on May 29 and will close on June 28 - the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) intends to submit comments.

The rule, which would require small recreational boats to travel at speeds of 10 knots along much of the Atlantic coast for up to seven months of the year, is ill-conceived, dangerous to boaters, economically disastrous, and ineffective at achieving its goal of protecting the North Atlantic right whale.

Colorado State University's Tropical Weather and Climate researchers, long known for their annual hurricane forecasts, are calling for the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season to be "extremely active". Above-average warm waters in the eastern and central Atlantic - fuel for a hurricane - as well as expected La Niña conditions later this summer/fall, which decrease vertical wind shear, contribute to the potential for increased storm formation this season.
