RS Sailing 2021 - LEADERBOARD

Laser 2000 Eurocup at British Möhnesee Sail Training Centre

by Johnny Johnston 31 Oct 2011 23:55 PDT 25-27 October 2011

The majority of the fleet arrived on the Sunday and spent the Monday having a bit of a shake-out sail and some start line training in the afternoon. With the start of the social evenings, I think John Cox enjoyed the little party games.

Tuesday saw the start of the racing. The wind ranged from force 2 - 3 and so the positions changed for each race, apart from Simon Horsfield who had three firsts. The evening was German night so Bratwurst and beer was the order of the day.

Wednesday, the wind picked up initially and to get the best course we had to sail further up the lake and under the bridge. There were some nervous people with lots of leeward heel on just in case. With the wind being a bit sporty, 20 knots at times Andy Hockey and May Ling were on a mission to take out two of the Army fleet. The damage caused Simon to only do two races once again getting first in both. However, John Cox was in the lead but did not read the lap board, heading back up the course, and this handed Andy and Mark Baldwin the race. Another eventful evening with the horse racing and some more "Port & Starboard".

Thursday was the Dam Race. With the wind coming from the South, this gave the fleet a nice reach to the Dam and back. Simon pulled out a good three minute lead at one point, however with shifty winds and wind holes in the end only won by 15 seconds. After prize-giving and some boat packing, the night flowed nicely with the live band and the beer.

In summary, I feel that the event was a great success. I would like to thank all of those who made the long journey to the Möhnesee. With requests to come back again next year, it looks like the Laser 2000 Eurocup has a new venue in the calendar.

Overall Results:

1st Simon Horsfield and Tom Bernal (ASA) 5pts
2nd Andy Baldwin and Mark Baldwin (Grafham Water) 12pts
3rd Helen and Andrew Phillips (Cardiff Bay) 12pts
4th George Thomson and Douglas Brand 16pts
5th Natalie Roach and Alex Pickles (RNSA) 20pts

Best Endeavour, Shane and Jo Grimes (ASA)
Top Service boat, Simon and Tom (ASA)

Well done to everyone who made this an excellent event.
