Laser Master European Championships in Belgium - Day 3

by Royal Belgian Sailing Club 3 Jul 2014 02:00 PDT

Waiting for the sea breeze paid off so we were rewarded with 13 knots from the NW. An excellent sailing day we should say.

Standard fleet:

Christian Pederson from Denmark keeps clinging on that first place, with an 8th and 6th position today. In his wake we find the Brit Alan Davis who got himself a 7th and 4th place and the Dutchman Jack De Rijk crossed the finish line on 4th and 16th place.

Radial fleet:

The Brit Jon Emmett is a hard nut to crack indeed! Today he managed to win both races as he did yesterday. His biggest competition is his fellow countryman Ian Jones who finished 3rd and 2nd. Luigi Santocanale from France conquered the third place after finishing 2nd and 5th today.

Tomorrow we are expecting great weather again, but the wind is taking a break. Therefor we will be starting at 14.00 hours like today so we can enjoy the sea breeze.

Tonight we all got together for a BBQ. There was good food, music and atmosphere but the cherry on the cake was the lottery of a Laser trolley. 9 time world Champion and 76 year old Peter Seidenberg from the United States gave away this great prize. He is the inventor of this trolley, which he now sells under the brand name Dynamic Dollies and Racks.

Further more we would like to take the time to thank the town Knokke-Heist for their support. Without them this event would not be possible. Thinking of how blessed we are to live in Knokke-Heist makes us realize that we truly are living in a corner of the world that has everything on offer.

Sport has a central place on the agenda here and that translates not only in having great sailing clubs but also magnificent sport complexes. The agenda here is filled to the brim with sporting events, and they can all bank on the logistic support of the town. I think it is fair to say that our council has managed for Knokke-Heist to be one of the most sportive towns in Belgium. The Red Devils even come and visit us on a regular basis for training sessions!

With 3 sailing schools is the Royal Belgian Sailing Club a big player in this region, and we really enjoy our co-operation with the council. We take pride of the fact that we are able to teach people how to sail and to receive fantastic international events, such as this European Championship.

But you do not have to be a sailor to enjoy our wonderful town! There are miles of walking and cycle routes, going through woods, dunes, and fields. We have an amazing pool complex with waterslides, state of the art fitness equipment and a water-ski club in front. Let's not forget our brand new youth centre and event hall next door.

Knokke-Heist has accomplished to be a one-stop shop. Here you can come to chill on the beach, an afternoon of shopping in the trendiest shops or a gastronomic experience in our Michelin star restaurants or our secret cocktail bar The Pharmacy. Maybe you prefer a cultural exploration in the many galleries on our promenade or cultural centre. With confidence we can say that our 5 star hotels and pro-active community can cater for all kind of high maintenance conferences. Maybe this is a good time to mention that there is even the opportunity to charter sailing yachts in one of our bases.
