Learn the information and skills required for safe sailing at the Safety at Sea Seminar on February 17, 2018, presented by The Mariners' Museum and Landfall Navigation.

This day-long seminar, designed and conducted by sailors and experts in their fields, provides novice and experienced mariners with information and skills required for sailing the Chesapeake Bay or offshore, handling heavy weather, conducting rescue procedures, and much more.

The Mariners' and Landfall Navigation have offered this seminar for seven consecutive years. Registrants will earn an official Near-Coastal Safety at Sea Certification from U.S. Sailing. This seminar is the most comprehensive near-coastal safety at sea program offered in the Hampton Roads area.

The Safety at Sea Seminar is open to all cruising and racing skippers, crews and their families, recreational boaters, and commercial mariners. Topics include emergency communications, man overboard and rescue procedures, personal safety equipment, life raft inflation, signal flares, dealing with large ships, paddle sports safety, and Chesapeake Bay weather.

The program will be moderated by Captain Henry Marx, owner and president of Landfall Navigation. Henry has more than 40 years sailing experience on both coasts of the United States, the North Sea, and the Caribbean. Joining Marx will be a panel of experts including: Capt. Mark Bologna, Capt. Ben Schill, retired Capt. Pete Seidler, and Jeff Orrock.

The registration fee for the seminar is $95 through January 31 and $115 starting February 1. Mariners' Museum Members receive $15 off registration. The fee covers lectures, demonstrations, course materials, U.S. Sailing Near-Coastal Safety at Sea Certificate, and a boxed lunch.

Seating is limited. To reserve space, visit marinersmuseum.org/safety-at-sea. For more information about the seminar, contact Mark Arduini at (757) 591-7749 or .
