All-new GB52 construction underway

by Grand Banks Yachts 29 Jul 2018 06:16 PDT

We've received a lot of questions and inquiries from the Grand Banks community about what's next after the wildly successful debut of the Grand Banks 60. We're excited to announce that construction on the new Grand Banks 52 is well underway, and will make its debut at the 2019 Newport International Boat Show.

The 52 incorporates the same design principles that have lead the GB60 to redefine long-range cruising. High-tech construction, weight reduction, additional strength and a unique slippery hull design that maximizes efficiency throughout the speed curve all create a long-distance cruiser like no other. The GB52 is receiving the same attention to detail and superior level of craftsmanship that have defined Grand Banks for more than six decades.

Full speed ahead

For engines, we chose a pair of 725-horsepower Volvo D11 diesels coupled to straight shafts. In our opinion, this package is tough to beat on the GB52. The D11 was redesigned a few years back and resulted in a few features that tick all the boxes for Grand Banks. For example, an improved cylinder head design provides a better cooling system that results in a consistent operating temperature. The engineering also provides high-torque performance at low rpm and near instant response when any throttle is applied. We also liked the optimized air and fuel pressure that results in very efficient combustion.

With this engine package, we're projecting a top speed of 30 knots with a high cruise of 27 knots. However, like the GB60, the GB52 is also designed to go the distance. For example, our GB60 can achieve a distance of 2,100 miles at 10 knots, and a top speed of 36 knots, depending on the engines selected.

Designed with intention

Below deck, Grand Banks aficionados will appreciate familiar details such as an abundance of storage, a properly designed lower helm, aft deck seating, and a galley designed to cook not only while on the hook, but also when underway.

The GB52 is offered as either a galley-down, two-stateroom layout, or a galley-up, three-stateroom layout. A large lazarette aft of the engine room provides an abundance of storage for tools, stores or spare parts. Of course, both plans are finished with Grand Banks' trademark golden teak. Natural ventilation is assured thanks to the electric actuated side and rear windows in the salon.

The fly bridge reveals Grand Banks' dedication to constant evolution and comfort. Two Stidd helm chairs serve the centerline helm, while a large L-shaped settee welcomes guest to lounge and relax. The starboard side wet-bar allows for easy dining and entertaining.

We're excited to keep you informed about the progress of the GB52 as the project progresses, so check grandbanks.com frequently. Please contact your Grand Banks sales specialist if you have any questions in the meantime.
