Diagnosed with cancer in July, Ian Kiernan AO has lost his battle with the disease passing away on 15 October.
Clean Up Australia was founded following Mr Kiernan's first hand experience seeing the amount of rubbish polluting our ocean's whilst competing in an around-the-world yacht race in 1986. His first event, 'Clean Up Sydney Harbour' was held in 1989 and the following year the first Clean Up Australia Day took place, the campaign is now global.
