Gold Coast Waterways Authority (GCWA) will have a strong presence at the upcoming Marinas19 International Conference and Trade Exhibition on the Gold Coast 27-28 May.

Gold Coast Waterways Authority CEO Hal Morris said Marinas19 is a great opportunity to partner with the Marina Industries Association (MIA) and its marina operators and users to promote best practice in managing our waterways. "On the Gold Coast, we're responsible for managing waterways with a natural capital value of $26 billion. Not only are they a valuable recreational space, they're becoming a bigger contributor to our economy. That's why we're investing in research to make sure we learn from the best in the business and use that knowledge to adapt our planning practices to manage challenges like climate change and population growth."

During the two day conference CGWA will conduct a parallel session stream of waterways management topics on the 28th and deliver further insights during the study tour on the 29th including an outline of Coomera River dredging to improve access to navigational channels.

Hal Morris said "Marinas19 is a great opportunity for us to share our knowledge with other Waterways Managers, Marina Operators and users to ensure all of us continue to enjoy our waterways for years to come." He said GCWA would also showcase its first-class capabilities for responding to vessel-sourced oil pollution. "Our skills are nationally recognised as best-practice, with GCWA recently called on to support the international response to an oil-spill near a World Heritage-listed area in the Solomon Islands. We look forward to sharing our skills by providing Marinas19 participants with some useful advice on responding to vessel-sourced oil pollution."

MIA Chairman Andrew Chapman said "the Marinas19 partnership with GCWA will add great value to the event and serve to strengthen the relationship between industry and GCWA. I would also urge other agencies managing waterways to attend Marinas19 and benefit from the presentations and dialogue around these important topics".

Marinas19 is being held on the Gold Coast Australia immediately after the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. See the Marinas19 website for more information.
