As mentioned in last week's newsletter it's now the turn of Brisbane to hold their annual Boat Show. The organisers, the Boating Industry of Australia, have done a sterling job of revitalising this Queensland event.
One of the attractions this year will be Michelle Lee, the only Australian woman to row solo non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean. The Brisbane Boat Show takes place at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, from the 23rd though to the 25th August, from 10am each day.
New boats this week extends to multihulls, power monohulls and racing yachts. First up is the two new offerings from Group Beneteau. The Grand Turismo 32 and 36 made their debuts this week. The powerful bold new-look Gran Turismo 36 is one of the most eagerly awaited this year. American-made, she is designed to USA standards of quality and comfort, while benefiting from the design ingenuity and expertise specific to the Beneteau boatyard.
Designed to provide a perfect transition from a day boat to an express cruiser, the Gran Turismo 32 makes use of the Flyer 10 deck plan, while retaining the panache of the Gran Turismo line. It also lives up to the challenge the Beneteau designers set themselves of marrying the spirit of a large open boat with that of a spacious comfortable hard top.
McConaghy Yachts founded by John McConaghy on Sydney's north shore is now located in Asia. They are delighted to have received the first order for the all-new MC55; the latest addition to the award-winning McConaghy Multihulls series of semi-custom fast cruising luxury catamarans. The owners have elected for a top-level equipment specification and a number of custom features. These include a hydraulic, telescopic passerelle seamlessly integrated into the transom structure, aft deck lounge seating with built-in fridge and barbecue, and a modified saloon island with raise-and-lower television.
Performance sailors will welcome a new brand to the market. Proving million-dollar budgets are not necessary to make the podium, the French JPK's dominated the 2019 Fastnet with an amazing array of results across four divisions. In looking at all the Fastnet results there are numerous top ten places proving JPK's the most consistent yacht in the race. The Fastnet had every possible condition including currents, breeze and over 350 competitors all with their focus on winning the 600 nm race.
And electronic developments continue to evolve. Sailing to Bermuda is an exciting way to experience the island's vibrant blue waters and dramatic scenery. And the best way for sailors to get to Bermuda - or any other destination - is with Raymarine's newest, free LightHouseTM 3 operating system update for Axiom®, Axiom Pro and Axiom XL multifunction displays. LightHouse Bermuda v3.10 is loaded with new and enhanced features for sailboat cruisers and racers equipped with one or more Axiom MFD. As with every Raymarine LightHouse operating system update, downloads are free and easy.
Electronic satellite communication company Inmarsat has revealed plans to triple the number of satellites servicing its flagship Ka-band Global Xpress (GX) network, the high-capacity VSAT constellation behind its Fleet Xpress high-speed mobile broadband service, by 2023 to meet rapidly increasing user demand for data across the globe, including the Arctic region.
Beamforming technology and rapid satellite deployment will dramatically increase network capacity and extend capabilities to cover the entire Arctic region.
