NSW Police and Emergency Services Minister, David Elliott inspected Steber International's factory complex during a recent visit to Taree.

Mr Elliott, accompanied by Myall Lakes MP, Steve Bromhead, also inspected progress on the new police station and unveiled the design for renovations to Taree PCYC.

Steber General Manager, Alan Steber, said the minister was particularly proud of the efforts of the company - establishing itself in regional NSW and employing local apprentices.

During a tour of the factory, Mr Steber noted that prior to decentralisation from Sydney to Taree in 1973-74, Steber had manufactured in excess of 10,000 runabouts up to 20ft in length. All delivered to clients across Australia.

"Since then we have manufactured the following vessels in our Taree plant:

  • 13 x Marine Rescue vessels
  • 22 x Navy vessels
  • 47 x Government vessels
  • 38 x Export vessels
"During this period we have:
  • trained over 150 shipwright apprentices
  • manufactured over 350 recreational and commercial vessels
  • also refitted in excess of 20 large vessels and many industrial components including the autonomous vessel "Bluebottle"
