Triple world champion's coach Simone Ricci to join the OptiOrange Valencia 2020

by Alexey Zhirov 2 Dec 2019 06:51 PST 5-8 March 2020

The famous Italian coach will be mentoring the Russian squad before the regatta start. Organized by SPBYC and Real Club Nautico de Valencia the OptiOrange Valencia is set for 5th-8th March 2020.

Training and practices were the main idea behind the OptiOrange Valencia from the very beginning. Now the coaching level goes one step further. Together with regular Belgian Pieter Van den Bossche the Russian squad will be coached by the Italian Simone Ricci.

The famous coach from Tognazzi Marine Village needs no introduction as Simone Ricci leads the triple Optimist world champion Marco Gradoni named World Sailing Rolex Sailor of the Year 2019. Recently Simone added the girl's European title that was won by his student Federica Contardi.

Simene plans to join the OptiOrange Valencia with his clinic and before the regatta start he will be training both young Russian sailors and coaches as well. During the racing days the Russian squad will be mentored by Pieter Van den Bossche from the "8 days a week" school.

Meanwhile the OptiOrange Valencia application process gains pace. With more than three months to the 2020 season start already over 200 applications from 18 nations were received. Considering such a rapid growth of the OptiOrange Valencia, the organizers SPBYC and Real Club Nautico de Valencia decided to introduce some adjustments. First of all there will be separate race courses and scoring for juniors and cadets. This means more prizes and more happy winners!

For sure all the features that quickly made the OptiOrange Valencia so successful will be maintained in 2020. These are low entry fee, affordable boat charter, daily free meals for all and definitely free unlimited orange juice. Besides, considering some remoteness of the RCNV from Valencia main city, a free shuttle will be provided for all those staying downtown. So kids can race daytime and really enjoy beautiful Valencia in the evening. Also, for parents and guests daily spectator boat with commentary will be provided.

"Racing in Valencia is always fun due to support of the RCNV and reliable weather, - admits SPBYC Director Denis Pilipenko. - Given that some of the best worldwide sailors and coaches are attending the OptiOrange Valencia is the best venue for training".

The OptiOrange Valencia is set for 5th-8th March 2020 with some teams arrive as soon as 1st March for training.

The regatta documents and the entry form are available at the official page, optiorangevalencia.com
