While Australia swelters with ongoing high summer temperatures the boat show circuit in Europe is in full swing. Boot Dusseldorf has just concluded and from all accounts provides some positive indications around the future trends within the industry. We hope the same enthusiasm is evident in Australia during 2020.

The Düsseldorf show has made a brilliant start to the new decade with a hugely successful event. Visitors were enthusiastic about the wide-ranging programme and the enormous selection of products and services provided by the more than 1,900 exhibitors in the 17 halls on the exhibition site. The international water sports community was delighted by nine unique days in Düsseldorf with a mix of stimulating networking, successful business and memorable experiences.

Developments during boot Dusseldor included Bavaria Yachts. Bavaria Yachts is entering the growing motorboat market for day cruisers with outboards. The first model will go into production in the Giebelstadt yard as early as September. The basis for the first motorboat with outboards from Bavaria Yachts is the Neo from Greenline Yachts. In the middle of during boot Dusseldorf, Bavaria Yachtbau GmbH and SVP Yachts from Slovenia agreed the takeover of all rights to the Neo concept.

Also from the show, the annual press meeting of X-Yachts introduced two new "Pure X" models in the oven - a 56 and a 60-footer. The actual launch of the first of them, the X56, is planned for November this year, so it will be a tested before the world debut presentation, which will be at the Boot Dusseldorf in January 2021. Over the past 40 years, X-Yachts has developed 60 yacht models and built approximately 6000 of them. X-Yachts has a very strong heritage, as suppliers of some of the most winning production yachts, winning six times the Three-Quarter Ton Cup, twice the One Ton Cup and many other races. X-Yachts has also built more than 1000 One Design Class Yachts.

In Australia the Marina Industries Association (MIA) has announced details of Marinas21, the International Conference and Trade Exhibition that is conducted every two years in Australia. Marinas21 will again be held on the Gold Coast. The venue is the Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort. The dates are Sunday 23 May to Tuesday 25 May 2021 to be followed by the Marina and Boatyard Technical Tour on Wednesday 26 May. The Club Marine Marina of the Year Awards Dinner will be held at the conclusion of the conference on Tuesday 25 May. The dates for Marinas21 overlap with the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show 2021 (SCIBS) that concludes on 23 May. Many delegates to Marinas19 appreciated the opportunity to visit SCIBS before attending Marinas19 and the MIA Board believe this is an important 'value add' particularly for interstate and international delegates.

New products this week includes the announcement by FLIR Systems, Inc. of its Raymarine Axiom® multifunction display (MFD) line that is compatible with CZone digital control and monitoring systems. The collaboration enables boat builders and system integrators to deliver custom CZone digital switching solutions with rich graphical interfaces controlled through Raymarine's line Axiom MFDs. CZone digital switching simplifies the installation of boat electrical systems through the replacement of complicated and often cumbersome traditional switch and fuse panels with networked digital switch interfaces, providing ultimate control of onboard electrical systems. When integrated with the Axiom MFD, the CZone system offers control of many different types of onboard electrical devices, including lighting and climate control.

And well done to the Boating Industry of Australia for contributing to efforts to return bush fire victims to a normal life. The Firefighter family day on the water initiative was created by Neil Driscoll of Above and Beyond Boating to provide a way for the boating community to give back to the volunteer men and women who have given up their summer and precious time with family to battle blazes across our country often in very traumatic circumstances. The Boating Industry Association is supporting this worthwhile initiative to give back to firefighters and their families through the positive experience of getting out on a boat on our waterways.
