Judges are eagerly awaiting applications for the prestigious Australian Marine Industry Awards which opened last week. The awards will be presented at the Australian Marine Industry Awards Gala Dinner taking place on the evening of Tuesday 19 May, 2020 at the InterContinental Resort, Sanctuary Cove.

The Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) continues to support the Australian marine export, commercial and superyacht industries with a strong focus on ensuring they are recognised for their innovation, excellence, skills and services to the industry.

The annual awards provide significant benefits for both entrants and winners and are an excellent opportunity for recognising and ensuring the Australian marine export, commercial and superyacht industries get the exposure and profile they deserve on the national and global stage.

2018 winner in multiple export categories including Exporter of the Year Matthew Hyde, Technical Director of Seahub Yacht Maintenance Software said, "To receive these awards from AIMEX is a huge honour given the calibre of businesses that comes out of the Australian market. We're lucky enough to work with international vessels and the reputation paved before us by other Australian businesses is often what allows us the chance to do what we do today. Our entire team is thrilled to receive this recognition. It'll keep us jogging on the spot for a long time to come."

AIMEX, alongside Superyacht Australia and the Australian Commercial Marine Group have been facilitating the awards since its inception in 2009. Over this time, they have gained a credible reputation since this first edition with the awards ceremony continuing to grow with the calibre of applications. New categories have been introduced to cater for the expanding Australian marine export, commercial marine and superyacht industries to ensure these new entrants' efforts do not go unnoticed.

This month, AIMEX has announced the addition of the inaugural 'Apprentice of the Year' Award in order to highlight the true strength of the Australian marine industry, our skilled tradesmen. This thrilling new category will recognise and honour apprentices from the Australian marine industry for their outstanding skills, performance, dedication and commitment by offering future tradespeople an opportunity to be nominated and acknowledged.

The winner will receive a trip to Amsterdam to attend the 2020 METSTRADE Show as part of the AIMEX delegation which will provide them with an experience of a lifetime and will further secure their future in the Australian marine industry.

The Australian Voyage award has gained significant traction since its introduction in 2018 and is returning to the line up of award categories again in 2020. The award is designed to recognise inspirational cruises in Australian waters and with the recent passing of the Special Recreational Vessels Bill, permitting foreign flagged superyachts to charter in Australian waters, Superyacht Australia is expecting an abundance of entries for this category.

David Good, Chief Executive Officer of AIMEX says, "The introduction of the new 'Apprentice of the Year' Award is very exciting for us, the ability to take a young tradesperson to the world's largest marine trade show will not only reward the winner but also display to the world industry why Australia has such a unique advantage, our skilled passionate tradespeople. AIMEX is dedicated to ensuring our skilled workers are maintained and recognised for their contribution to the Australian marine industry and this new award category supports this."

Good added, "The awards ceremony Gala Dinner is the perfect setting for rewarding industry efforts while providing opportunity to connect with key national and international industry stakeholders. Featuring live entertainment, signature wines and a three-course meal, it is set to be another night to remember for the Australian marine industry."

Judging will be conducted across the following categories in 2020:
