New training partnership for Australian Marina Industry

by Colin Bransgrove 12 Feb 2020 22:48 PST

The Marina Industries Association (MIA) and the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) Professional and Technical Training Australia (PATTA) have signed an agreement for PATTA to deliver Certificate III in Marina Operations.

It is planned that the course will be open to marina staff in July this year. The course is currently registered for delivery with government authorities in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

Chairman of the MIA Education Committee Clemens Overdijk said it is an important development for the industry. "The course syllabus was developed by industry to strengthen the industry career pathway and attract more young people to work in the marina sector."

MIA CEO Colin Bransgrove said "PATTA are demonstrating a strong commitment to ensure delivery is sustainable and that ultimately it will be available in all states. Previously an RTO had commenced; but was not able to sustain course delivery. The investment PATTA is making in quality on-line learning is very important to ensure the long-term sustainability of the course across Australia's 320 commercial and club marinas."

PATTA Managing Director Colin Hobson said he was very pleased to be partnering with MIA to provide the course to the marina sector. "PATTA has a strong track record in education and training in the marine industries. Certificate III in Marina Operations is a very good fit for PATTA's suite of training. We are enthusiastic to be working with MIA to ensure the course makes a significant contribution to the on-going development of Australia's commercial and club marinas."
