The Yacht Brokers, Designers and Surveyors Association is delighted to announce that Bas Edmonds will be taking on the role of Chief Executive Officer.
Bas will take the reins at YBDSA, following in the footsteps of the current CEO Jane Gentry, who has been in the position for 20 years and retires at the end of April 2020.
YBDSA is the umbrella organisation for two of the marine industry's leading Professional Associations. Together, ABYA (the Association of Brokers & Yacht Agents) and YDSA (the Yacht Designers & Surveyors Association) have been setting the standards for professional Brokers and Surveyors since 1912.
Bas will arrive at the YBDSA with a wealth of experience, having worked within the marine industry all his working life from sail making, through 12 years at the RYA as Technical Manager and recently a period at the MCA working on regulations for small craft.
"I'm really excited to take on such an important role in the marine industry. Jane and the team at the YBDSA have grown an excellent, well-supported membership base and I am looking forward to building on from this work," said Bas Edmonds.
Duties at YBDSA will also include the YDSA Certifying Authority and Bas has enormous insight into this work both from his time at the RYA and at the MCA, which will be very beneficial to the Members and their clients alike.
"I have worked with Bas over a number of years and found him to be knowledgeable and helpful and I am certain he will bring a new perspective to the role, especially his technical knowledge, which will support the ongoing growth of the associations within the small craft marine sector," said Jane Gentry, the outgoing CEO.
We look forward to welcoming Bas to the YBDSA - at a date yet to be confirmed - and our Members will have plenty of opportunities to meet him during the coming year.
