Boaters are encouraged to attend free lifejacket clinics this weekend in Albury, Mulwala and Cobram.
NSW Maritime A/Executive Director NSW Maritime Alex Barrell said people can attend sessions at Hovell Tree Park at Albury tomorrow between 1pm and 5pm, Mulwala Water Ski Club at Mulwala on Saturday 7 March from 10am to 1pm, and Kennedy Park at Thompsons Beach in Cobram on Sunday 8 March between 10am and 1pm.
"We know that lifejackets save lives but they can only do so when they are maintained correctly and in good working order," Mr Barrell said.
"Inflatable lifejackets are easy to wear, comfortable and affordable, but they require extra care and attention to ensure they will inflate in an emergency.
"Learning how to do these simple lifejacket checks and servicing could save your life, and ensure you have a fun day out on the water and get home to your family safely.
"NSW has some of the best waterways in the country and we want people to enjoy their time on the water, but we want to make sure people do so safely."
Mr Barrell said the clinics would include demonstrations of easy-to-do lifejacket pre-wear checks and servicing of inflatable lifejackets.
Boaters who attend the clinics will be eligible to receive free lifejacket parts kits or a $15 voucher which can be used towards the purchase of a new lifejacket or parts at participating marine retailers.
