The inaugural Sanctuary Cove Boating Festival last weekend, held in lieu of the 31st annual Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show this year, has been a major success for leading luxury motor yacht manufacturer Maritimo.

Multiple orders secured at the festival and following days have further bolstered Maritimo's forward order pipeline, which is now at record levels for the brand. Maritimo also experienced a large volume of increased demand in the months leading up to the festival as boating families recognized Maritimo as the ideal platform to relax and recuperate, and cruise vast distances to holiday with friends and family amongst the challenges of 2020.

The show, one of the only Asia Pacific boat shows held this year due to Covid-19 cancellations across the industry, saw a constant stream of genuine buyers at the Multihull Solutions stand. Interest was particularly strong in the Fountaine Pajot and ILIAD Catamarans brands, and the ILIAD 50 power catamaran on display hosted hundreds of inspections during the event. At the close of the three-day show, Multihull Solutions had taken almost AUD$12.5 million in orders and conditional contracts pending sea trials across its range of sail and power multihulls.

Meanwhile the Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) held their industry awards presentation. The resilience of the Australian marine industry was showcased this week at the 2020 annual Australian Marine Industry Awards hosted at the stunning Southport Yacht Club on the Gold Coast. The COVID-safe event was also streamed live online, and celebrated the outstanding achievers in the Australian marine export, superyacht and commercial sectors. Setting the tone for the night was MC Steven Bradbury OAM, Australian Olympic Champion and motivational speaker who throughout the evening shone a light on the benefits of positive thinking.

Rivergate Marina and Shipyard celebrated a trifecta of awards at this year's ceremony. In the Superyacht Industry Awards, Rivergate Marina & Shipyard won the Superyacht Industry Provider of the Year Award, in recognition of their reputation for world-class repair and refit facilities and superior service. Judges praised Rivergate for its international reputation, as evidenced in the recent visit of 57.7m Amels superyacht, MY DANCING HARE for complex refit works.

With boat show exposure in short supply globally, J/Boats Australia will be displaying the award-winning J/88 and J/99 at the Two-Handed Seminar at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, Newport (just north of Sydney) on the 21st November. The multi award winning J/99, the only boat in its category to win the British Yachting Awards - Best Performance Boat, SAIL Magazine Best Boats Award - Performance Boat 31' and Sailing World Boat of the Year Award - Best Crossover. Global race results are equally impressive whether sailing the J/99 in short-handed mode or fully crewed, this easy to sail, fast and very versatile boat takes the J/Boats 'all-purpose' philosophy and build quality to the next level. With almost 70 units sold already in its short life the J/99 is proving to be a worldwide success story.

Prominent offshore sailor and sailing administrator David Kellett AM has been awarded Australian Sailing Life Membership. David is the twelfth person in the organisation's seventy years to be awarded this honour, and the first since 2016. David was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the sport of sailing, specifically as a competitor and administrator of the sport in Australia and abroad. He has served as an Executive Board Member of ISAF (and was the first Australian to be elected to this office) and amongst other roles has also served as Treasurer of World Sailing from 2008 to 2012.

Further west, the South of Perth Yacht Club has achieved accreditation under the International Clean Marina Program along with the additional recognition of it being a Fish Friendly Marina. Situated on the beautiful Swan River, the marina was successful in the rigorous, independent assessment process which audits a 103-point checklist. The Clean Marina Program and assessment criteria was developed by industry and government specialists in Australia. The audit includes inspections of mechanical activities, boat maintenance and storage, fuelling, facility and waste management, workshop, risk management and emergency planning and boater education. A detailed written report is provided following the site audit.

New products this week includes Zhik's new INS200 range takes a new approach for inshore and coastal wet weather gear, with a streamlined design that easily transitions to the street. It's packed with all the features for excellent protection and performance, without adding unnecessary bulk or an overly engineered design. It has a clean look and a neat fit that moves with your body and is suitable for many people's regular sailing and boating. Made from a three-layer Vecta fabric technology, that is lightweight, waterproof with a breathable membrane suitable for moderate levels of activity and higher levels of waterproof durability than the industry average. Inside all seams are taped with further reinforcement on critical seam junctions.
