The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to strengthening the Coast Guard community and service by supporting members and families, announced today the results of its investment in spouse education grants for 2021. This year, 177 Coast Guard spouses received grants and are enrolled in degree-seeking and professional certification programs with the support of the Coast Guard Foundation and its generous donors.

The opportunity to earn a college degree and professional certification is critical for those Coast Guard spouses who want to contribute to their household income. With a degree and technical training, they can increase their employment prospects and provide for their family's financial health.

"This program is increasingly important to Coast Guard spouses," said Susan Ludwig, president, Coast Guard Foundation. "Together with our key partners and donors, we have provided resources they need to take care of their families and strengthen their personal well-being."

Coast Guard spouses give back to their communities with the work they do. Close to 50% of this year's grant recipients are studying to become nurses, training for professions in oral/dental health, or service in other healthcare roles. Coast Guard spouses continue to be active across all industries, with many teachers, business management professionals and scientists among them.

The Coast Guard Foundation spouse grant program is a hallmark initiative and is generously supported by a variety of donors across the country. In addition to many generous individual donors, this year three key corporate partners sponsored awards. Through the generosity of Delta Dental, the Coast Guard Foundation awarded ten grants to Coast Guard spouses enrolled in dental and healthcare programs. Navy Federal Credit Union was a key sponsor for ten Coast Guard spouse grants, and GEICO Military served as a matching gift partner.

"We are grateful to Delta Dental, GEICO Military, and Navy Federal Credit Union for their strong support of our 2021 spouse grant program," added Ludwig.
