While the Festival of Boating is set to take place in Sydney at the end of July, Victorians can look forward to the Discover Boating Showcase. The BIAV have announced, and invite exhibitors to, this inaugural event.

There is a burgeoning appetite for leisure, lifestyle, the outdoors, and in particular, boating. The Discover Boating Showcase will leverage this and provide a fantastic and immersive event, for new and current boating audiences alike. This will be Victoria's Major Boating Event for 2021. The National Water Sports Centre, just off the Peninsula Freeway, inland from Patterson Lakes, is purpose built and ideal for this event. There is easy freeway access 35 minutes from Melbourne, ample parking, a 2km fresh-water boat trialling zone, two boat ramps, extensive on-land display space, all in a relaxed semi-rural setting. The BIAV has secured exclusive use of the site for the duration of the event period, 7-12 October.

Further North in Queensland, Multihull Solutions and The Yacht Sales Co are hosting a special Open-For-Inspection event in Brisbane. The evening of Friday 25 June is exclusively dedicated to Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron members, then all members of the public are then invited to inspect the boats on display on Saturday 26 June from 9am - 5pm, with appointments available for booking.

Also in Queensland, one of the world's leading facilities for superyacht owners and captains will be a centrepiece of the expanded Rivergate Marina and Shipyard. A five-storey riverfront building will provide Rivergate guests with state-of-the-art onshore facilities and resort-style amenities including a recreation hub, exclusive captain's and owner's lounge, and rooftop pool and sauna - all just a stone's throw from their vessels. Rivergate has cemented its place as one of Australia's best marinas after being inducted into the Hall of Fame at the 2021 Club Marine Marina of the Year Awards in May. Creating a world-class retreat for captains and crew to experience a home away from home and rest their sea legs, Rivergate has commissioned well known superyacht interior designer Sarah Egan, to design the luxury facilities.

Another partnership has been announced this week. B&G®, the world's leading sailing navigation and instrument specialist is pleased to announce their partnership with Oyster Yachts, the leading British manufacturer of the world's finest bluewater sailing yachts. Oyster have been designing, building and supporting luxury, go-anywhere adventure machines since 1973. This new partnership means B&G will be the preferred electronics supplier across Oyster's fleet of 50ft to 120ft sailing boats and the rollout will begin with the new Oyster 495.

People in the news includes experienced sailor Nicki Souter. Cobli has welcomed their team's newest star, as their new Business Manager. If you have followed sailing over the last decade in Australia then the name may well ring a bell. One of the most awarded female sailors in recent history, Nicky has notched up an impressive haul including, World match racing champion, Sydney to Hobart winner onboard Wild Oats, ten national championships and in 2010 was named Australian Female Sailor of the Year. Growing up on Scotland Island with the daily commute to the mainland, she had seawater in her blood from a young age. Having recently returned from an eight-year stint in the USA working as a sailing manager for yacht clubs in Connecticut and New York, Nicky is back and settled here on the glorious Northern Beaches.

And something to think about as we move into winter. With the beautiful winter weather calling visitors to Northern Australia and tempting locals to get out and explore their own backyard, the importance and value of nature has never been more apparent than it is now. Whilst the incredible natural assets in the Whitsundays have always been something of a draw-card, from the postcard-perfect Hill Inlet to the iconic Heart Reef formation, not to mention the endless vistas of yachts, islands and tropical coastlines, there is a new reason to want to get back to nature this winter. It is actually good for your health. The Coral Sea Academy is looking forward to hosting another educational and inspirational event this month, inviting locals and visitors to attend a free event at The Lookout Lounge, Coral Sea Marina, on Saturday 26th June, to explore the "Blue Mind" theory and the surprising science of how being on the water can benefit your well-being and happiness.

As part of our expanded industry coverage to take in important industry developments in South East Asia and New Zealand we note that Intellian has announced that its new state-of-the-art Research and Development Centre in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, is now complete and operational. The facility provides a new home for the continually growing engineering team, houses state of the art product and quality verification facilities, and will accelerate product development. In particular, antennas using emerging phased array technology will benefit from a new compact test range to assist with development and testing. The expansion also allows production to be significantly increased in the existing Innovation Centre, meeting the increased order volume recently experienced by Intellian and providing capacity for new product lines.
