80% HVAC energy savings with MAR-IX's Hyper TP for superyachts

by MAR-IX 2 Jul 2021 06:57 PDT

Uniquely in the superyacht HVAC industry, the Hyper Thermal Process (Hyper TP) from Dutch HVAC specialists MAR-IX is now offering the highest reductions on electric (hotel) load available today.

Developed in-house based on the twin pillars of rich practical experience and a commitment to the environment, the combination of Hyper TP with MAR-IX's premium quality HVAC equipment can result in energy savings as high as 80% on both new builds and refits. And the smart sharing and reuse of energy onboard meets the very latest eco-conscious requirements.

Energy efficiency is in the DNA of the experts at MAR-IX who have demonstrated that circular thinking and premium HVAC need not be mutually exclusive. Fully aware of the perils of climate change, the company is playing its part in creating a cleaner world while ensuring superyacht owners and crew the best indoor climate on their yacht in every respect.

Guaranteeing a significantly lower e-load lessens a vessel's carbon footprint, resulting in a more sustainable operation as well as significantly lower operational costs. Hyper TP integrates all the various thermal energy sources and onboard consumers. It is the ultimate combination of smart system design with intelligent monitoring & control, and results in savings of up to 80%.

Making the most of waste heat

The essence of Hyper TP is to see all the different processes on a yacht as one single system. Rather than discharging waste heat from these processes overboard, the MAR-IX solution recovers that heat and makes it available to other onboard consumers, reducing the load on users of thermal such as chiller units and hot water calorifiers/boilers. Fridges and freezers can also be connected to the HVAC system, with the absorbed heat being transferred to, for example, the hot water supply. Ultimately, this means guests can have a shower that partly uses heat generated by the fridge/freezer.

Viral security and 100% fresh air

The heat recovery on the MAR-IX fresh-air system uses a fluid process and there is zero chance of any cross-contamination of fresh-air supply and extraction air... Or anything more sinister. This is a major plus point at a time when fresh air and viral security are at the front of everyone's mind.

And there's more. Owners looking to explore areas with stringent environmental regulations are having large battery packs installed which allow for cruising on the electrical engines. The same source has to supply energy to many onboard systems. The more this hotel load can be reduced, the more energy is available for the engines and the greater the yacht's range - or a lower battery capacity can be installed, reducing weight. Hyper TP is the answer here too, as well as for yachts looking to meet Tier III regulations using smaller generators without large and expensive exhaust gas treatment systems.

Bespoke approach

As a product of continuous R&D, Hyper TP enables MAR-IX to create the most eco-friendly marine HVAC systems money can buy. All benefit from the exceptionally low noise levels for which MAR-IX's lightweight equipment is renowned along with the small unit sizes and capacity to build to scale on superyachts.

As an independent company, MAR-IX offers an unrivalled degree of customisation, backed up by its own ultra-reliable software and electronics. All products and systems are developed, engineered and built in-house in the Netherlands, giving the company and its clients total control over all quality aspects.

MAR-IX has just launched a new website at www.mar-ix.com which showcases Hyper TP and the very latest developments in HVAC.
