2021 Mustang Survival J70 Corinthian National Championship at Eastern Yacht Club – Day 1

by Julie & Christopher Howell 17 Sep 2021 22:45 PDT

Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead, MA welcomed 31 all-amateur teams to the Mustang Survival J/70 Corinthian US National Championship under overcast skies with breeze at 8-12 knots. After three races, Nobuyuki Imai's Siesta holds a narrow one-point advantage over Henry Filter's Wild Child (11 to 12 points). Only two notches further back is Lee Sackett's USA1516.

Representatives from Doyle Sails (Jud Smith and Tomas Hornos), North Sails (Allan Terhune), Quantum Sails (Kris Werner) and Geoff Becker were on the water for Thursday's practice race and Friday's competition. The Class Rules have been modified to allow communications by these coaches before, between and after racing through Saturday. Evenings also feature post-race debrief sessions at EYC, including drone video and question-and-answer opportunities.

Friday's race winners were Charlie Pendleton's Bad Hombres, Brian Keane's Savasana and Lee Sackett.

Racing continues through Sunday.
