Third Annual National Harbormaster Appreciation Day to be celebrated on October 8, 2021

by US Harbors 27 Sep 2021 18:37 PDT October 8, 2021

What do a Harvard MBA, a Coast Guard veteran, and a scallop fisherman all have in common? Answer: They're all harbormasters, and they're being celebrated on 10/8/2021.

US Harbors announced that the 3rd annual National Harbormaster Appreciation Day will be celebrated on October 8th, 2021. The holiday, registered with the National Day Archive, is intended to bring recognition to the vital public servants in coastal communities that often are under appreciated. On this day communities around the country are organizing local events to show appreciation for their harbormasters.

US Harbors will host a live, online event featuring interesting Harbormasters from around the country on October 8th. This year's theme is: "What It Takes to Become a Harbormaster". Event access details for the public will be available at harbormasterday.com/harbormaster- appreciation-day-live-on-10-8-2020/ the week prior to Harbormaster Day.

In 2020 over 100,000 people participated in the event by posting photos, stories, videos of their harbormasters. This year's event will be similar: a day of local community celebration and giving thanks conducted in accordance with local social distancing regulations. Leading up to the event, US Harbors will offer weekly giveaways on its website and social channels, as well as providing tips for how to celebrate safely. Winners will receive two prizes - one for themselves and for their harbormaster.

Harbormaster Appreciation Day is sponsored by US Harbors, a website used by over 10 million people each year for tides, weather, and harbor-local boating and fishing information. US Harbors provides coastal and marine weather conditions and forecasts for over 1,400 harbors from Maine to Hawaii, Alaska to Florida, and in the Great Lakes.
