Marina Innovation catapults Sanctuary Cove onto world stage with southern hemisphere first

by Sanctuary Cove 2 Nov 2021 15:42 PDT

The eyes of the global marine industry are set on Sanctuary Cove Marina as they unveil 48 covered marina berths in a first for the industry in the southern hemisphere - cementing the Gold Coast-based marina's position as a world leader in the industry.

The final stage of Sanctuary Cove Marina's multi-million dollar marina upgrades, the 14.5 metres covered berths provide an unparalleled service offering for luxury boat owners as boats internationally look to dock on Australian shores.

Excitement for the development has been demonstrated in the overwhelming demand for the covered berths, with the majority of the spaces being committed to during the construction period.

The protective sails have been designed to integrate with Sanctuary Cove's distinct aesthetic, with the shade structures resemblant of ribbons in the breeze, they act as both an impactful design enhancement and a valuable feature for berth holders.

Sanctuary Cove Marina General Manager, Steve Sammes said that they've been delighted by the overwhelming response from boat owners who are searching for a premium boating and storage experience and look forward to welcoming international owners to dock at the world-class location.

"The feedback from both boat owners and industry leaders has been astounding, we are elated to have been able to develop unique world-class facilities on the Gold Coast, that has caught the eye of the industry internationally," Mr Sammes said.

"These new additions to the marina are truly putting the Gold Coast on the map as a must-visit location, attracting a high calibre of tourists and vessel owners that seek out premium facilities and will invest in the Gold Coast community when they arrive."

The world-class facilities compliment Sanctuary Cove Marina's premium offerings such as their unique Platinum Membership offering for its berth holders, a membership that provides exclusive access to Sanctuary Cove's championship courses, health club facilities, the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort, direct vessel room service and Sanctuary Cove Marine Village's shopping and dining precinct.

The one-of-a-kind marina berths boast facilities and construction that are incomparable to any other facility across the globe, continuing to trailblaze the future of the marine industry.

Superior Jetties Commercial Project Manager, Andy Vollmer said that the covered berths provided a unique challenge as they strived to develop a world-class facility that would innovate the industry and solidify Sanctuary Cove Marina's reputation internationally.

"We took every measure to ensure the facilities would provide the type of protection and care these luxury vessels require, such as the superyachts we welcome regularly, and would integrate perfectly into the precinct," Vollmer said.

"The addition of covered berths is truly a first for the Australian marine industry, we didn't have a blueprint to follow or marina to copy which meant we had to find innovative construction solutions to complete structures in or above the water that normally be completed on land."

The Superior Jetties team including sub-contractor Vector Shade Structures couldn't be happier to see the project, which was years in the making, finally open to the public.

"The creation of such a cutting-edge marina was almost three years in the making, with countless hours of drafting, engineering revisions and multiple designs we are so proud to finally see the structure come to fruition at the Sanctuary Cove Marina," Vollmer said.

Vector Shade Structures owner and director Sam said using "Using Mehler Technologies VALMEX® FR 700, a 100% waterproof fabric that blocks out light and UV transmission, to create the shade sails that each weigh 3.5 tonnes and a total of 275 tonnes of steel across the entire project, we look forward to seeing the shades become a pillar of the marine community and have the stunning ribbon-resemblant structure become a Gold Coast landmark," Burke said.

Sanctuary Cove Marina boasts a range of premium facilities at their idyllic location, providing berth holders with a luxury 5-star marina experience with expertly trained staff, access to two 18-hole championship golf courses, the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort's world-class facilities and Sanctuary Cove Marine Village's unparalleled shopping and dining offering.

Together with signature events such as Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, the new upgrades enhance Sanctuary Cove's unique waterfront lifestyle offering, ensuring an unparalleled lifestyle experience for visitors.

The public will get their first look at Australia's only covered marina at the Sanctuary Cove Marina Family Day on Saturday, 13 November, between 10 am and 3 pm.

Visitors are invited to take a tour of the Marina, get acquainted with the world-class facilities and secure one of the few remaining undercover berths on site.

View vessels from Sanctuary Cove's world-class boating retailers and enjoy plenty of free entertainment and activities for the kids and you could win a night's accommodation at the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort.
