Keeping an eye on the Reef this summer
With a La Niña now confirmed for the tropical Pacific, the outlook for the health of the Great Barrier Reef depends greatly on local weather conditions over the upcoming summer. Based on several models presented, the summer outlook for the Reef is still uncertain at this point.

Darumbal TUMRA
This month the Reef Authority and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service accredited the Darumbal Traditional Use of Marine Resources Agreement (TUMRA). The TUMRA with Darumbal Traditional Owners is in place until 2037 and covers an area of 36,606 km2. There are now 10 TUMRA and one Indigenous Land Use Agreement in place covering more than 43% of the GBR coastline.

Reef HQ Aquarium is on a roll!
This year marked the beginning of a transformation that will cement Reef HQ as the world's largest living coral reef aquarium and a global destination for reef education. Our Snapshot of Capital Works summarises the early works program, system upgrades, and outlines some of the local businesses used in the redevelopment of Reef Hq. To date, more than 50 contractors and sub-contractors have been involved in early capital works since the start of the project with the Authority investing more than $7 million in the local and regional economy.
