Officially opening this week 17th February, The Boat Works largest refit sheds the, Mega Sheds have welcomed bookings from the region's premium superyachts.

The four new Mega sheds are now even larger than the existing sheds built two years ago and are the tallest refit sheds on the Gold Coast.

With a 20-metre height clearance the new refit sheds will welcome major refits and refinishing works to superyachts 50-metres in length.

The first to be welcomed was the robust 34.6-metre Moonen motor yacht 'Beluga', which boasts an 8.1-metre beam.

The four-deck explorer will be extremely comfortable in the new 20-metre high Mega Shed, with ample room and enough air draft for refit and maintenance works.

The sheds have a 16-metre width to accommodate the scaffold and scissor or boom lifts necessary for various refit works along with plenty of room aside for cooling towers, storage containers, even enough room to store the tender or jetskis.

The Mega Sheds are situated in the dedicated Superyacht facility with easy access to the Chandlery Superstore, Marine Trade Supplies along with all marine services within the Gold Coast Marine Precinct.

Contractors will enjoy the north facing aspect preventing the trending south-east winds along with the longer daylight hours.

All sheds provide state-of-the-art LED lighting, ample power for vessels and trades, drainage channelled into a treatment process and commercial curtains for privacy and reduction of noise and dust.

"To meet demand, we accelerated our plans," explained The Boat Works owner, Tony Longhurst. "Our new Mega Sheds are five-metres higher than our existing Super Sheds and they are the largest on the Gold Coast, ready and waiting for the largest privately owned and commercial superyachts."

As Tony observed, the Gold Coast is looking forward to welcoming a flurry of new 20m+ vessels. Onsite partner, Alexander Marine Australia will receive the new Ocean Alexander 27E in mid-April.

Horizon Motor Yachts, based at Sanctuary Cove's undercover Marina, recently took delivery of four new vessels in the Fast Displacement (FD) Series, all of which will be commissioned at The Boat Works.

General Manager, Steve Sammes from Sanctuary Cove Marina commented "The new sheds are a great addition to the already existing comprehensive offering that The Boat Works can provide to our Sanctuary Cove Marina berth holders."

"The feedback from our berth holders is that The Boat Works' facilities are world-class which further strengthens the offering in our region. Our relationship with The Boat Works means our customers can access this premium maintenance and refit facilities within a convenient distance from the marina."

The Gold Coast is fast becoming the region's superyacht hub. Southport Yacht Club officially opened its 163-metre Mega Berth this week as well- the largest of its kind in Australia featuring a line-up of three Horizon superyachts, 75 to 103-feet.

Brett James, General Manager at Southport Yacht Club said The Boat Works' Mega Sheds opening was "perfectly timed, coinciding with the Mega Berth at Southport Yacht Club".

"Both these Mega Yacht infrastructures are the first of their kind in Australia. Vessels from not only Australia but the world are coming to see what Australia has to offer."

We will see multiple expedition and motor yachts from various locations that look to dock at Southport Yacht Club's new berth before heading to The Boat Works for haul out and service.

104-foot (32-metre) Ocea Motor Yacht 'Espiritu Santo' from Melbourne recently docked at SYC and was lifted out yesterday at The Boat Works for a three-month refit.

Captain and crew will enjoy all the amenities The Boat Works has to offer with a bespoke VIP Lounge offering a retreat from the yard equipped for relaxation and or as a meeting room. Onsite recreational zones have been created to welcome Crew a place to stay, work and play with onsite food & beverage options from The Galley restaurant, Espresso Twenty5 café & car museum and the new Kokomo Kitchen & Bar set along the palm-fringed sand beach of the superyacht basin, perfect for entertainment with sundowners and a friendly ambience.

For crew convenience to onsite laundries, gym equipment even an onsite Barber & massage option are available along with courtesy cars to Surfers Paradise and the famous Gold Coast beaches.

"It's a new super-era we're entering on the Gold Coast and we're proud to be leading it," stated The Boat Works' General Manager, Shane Subichin. "Our Mega Sheds are world-class, as are our tenants, staff and contractors."

Gold Coast Mayor, Tom Tate said this infrastructure represented a further "game changer for our city's marine industry".

"Our focus, as a council, is on diversifying the economy - and the marine industry is key to that approach," he said.

"We want the world to know that our city is not only a welcoming port for superyachts and their crew but that we also have the logistical and technical facilities to ensure the best service and support is in place throughout their visit.

"In the past three years, we have seen significant state, council and private sector investment in the marine industry. I applaud all parties for their confidence in expanding this vital industry sector.''
