New Minister for Boating and Fishing - Sonya Kilkenny

by Boating Industry Association of Victoria 29 Jun 2022 13:27 PDT

The weekend's reshuffle at 1 Spring St has seen the appointment of Sonya Kilkenny as the Minister for Boating and Fishing in the Victorian state government.

The Boating Industry Association of Victoria welcomes Sonya to the portfolio, and congratulates her on the promotion into this ministerial position. As the member for Carrum since 2014, Sonya has been heavily involved in boating issues, with an emphasis on the state's most prolific boating facility at Launching Way (Patterson River), which is under 1km from her electorate office.

Sonya was also involved with the 2018 election campaign to see a greater emphasis placed on supporting boaters and boating facilities, which led to many positive outcomes during this 2018-22 election cycle. We look forward to working with Sonya Kilkenny as the new Minister.

Meanwhile we farewell Melissa Horne, who during her two years as minister oversaw a great deal of progress. BIAV has many times documented and celebrated some of these accomplishments including the positioning of Better Boating Victoria along with the VFA, the establishment of the Better Boating Fund, releasing the Recreational Boating Strategy, investing in boating events, instigating multiple facility upgrades, developing a boat facility/ramp guide and supporting industry businesses through Covid challenges. We thank Melissa and wish her well for her transition to new portfolios including urban development and local government.
