Hoisting the sails together: Boris Herrmann's Team Malizia partners with SamBoat

The German skipper's offshore sailing team and the world's largest boat rental platform are announcing a one-year partnership. SamBoat will provide Team Malizia's onshore crew with a sailing boat in Guadeloupe during the Route du Rhum in November 2022. The team will use the boat as work and home base whilst skipper Boris Herrmann completes the transatlantic race, his first solo race since the finish of the Vendée Globe.

Working from the charter boat, Team Malizia will prepare for Boris Herrmann's arrival, and organise events with local children and scientists to educate the next generation about the climate crisis and the dangers our Ocean faces. Besides both enjoying adventures out at sea, Team Malizia and SamBoat share common values around sustainability, ocean protection and the rehabilitation of ecosystems. With every rented boat, the online platform finances the adoption of one coral branch through their partner Coral Guardian. From the sailing boat and during dives on local reefs, Team Malizia will film two episodes of their upcoming children's YouTube series to teach them about corals, ocean acidification and restoration.

Team Malizia skipper Boris Herrmann comments on the partnership: "It's great to see a relatively simple concept, such as sharing, being used in an innovative and useful way. Offering boats that are already there and available instead of building new accommodations on land contributes to building a better, more sustainable world - and all this by enjoying being on the water, even better!"

Marie-Claire Bonnet, SamBoat Germany, adds: "The sea and sailing are our passions. The preservation of our planet is our common mission. Boris and Team Malizia inspire you with what is possible with sailing, and together with SamBoat you set the sails."

Over the coming months, including The Ocean Race, SamBoat will likely provide Team Malizia with other sailing boats all around Europe, for them to use as offices to continue their "A Race We Must Win" mission or activate with partners on the different stopovers of the round-the-world race.
