The Sustainability in the Boating Industry Award was launched in line with supporting boating as a standout choice in leisure activity for everyone and the promotion of environmentally responsible practices within the boating industry.

The award recognises companies or individuals who have demonstrated outstanding efforts in contributing towards sustainable business practices and/ or supporting the sustainability of boating.

Nominees will be assessed on their achievements in reducing environmental impacts through actions such as use of sustainable materials and manufacturing processes, contributing to emissions reduction, and/ or implementing sustainable business practices.

For more information, criteria and to nominate visit the Sustainability Award website page here.

The BIA is also calling for nominations for the Apprentice of the Year Awards. The Awards are designed to recognise both the outstanding contribution that apprentices provide to the marine industry and the importance of developing a strong future for training and careers.

Nominees are assessed on their achievements throughout the course of their apprenticeship, personal development and contribution to the business, with short listed nominees appearing before an industry selection panel via videoconference.

The Awards are open to any final (fourth) year apprentice working with a BIA member company and will be awarded to apprentices across member States and Territories, in addition to an overall national winner.

Any BIA member may nominate an eligible apprentice: the nomination form is available here.

Nomination submissions for both categories have been extended to 30 June 2023.

Winners will be announced at the Sydney International Boat Show in August and will receive a trophy and certificate, as well as a cash voucher. For Apprentice of the Year there will be $2000 in cash prizes towards trade tools while the Sustainability Award winner will receive $2000 towards travel to an appropriate major marine or sustainability event.
