The Sailing Museum and National Sailing Hall of Fame name new Communications and Marketing Manager

by National Sailing Hall of Fame 10 Aug 2023 15:50 PDT

The Board of Directors of The Sailing Museum and National Sailing Hall of Fame announced today that Erika Holshoe has been hired as the organization's new communications and marketing manager.

In her new role, Holshoe will be responsible for digital and social media outreach relating to The Sailing Museum and the National Sailing Hall of Fame, as well as coordination with internal and external stakeholders in both and maintaining the image and growth of the Museum and the Hall of Fame. She has a background in both museums and general communications.

"I've lived all over the country, but I consider Rhode Island to be my home, and the National Sailing Hall of Fame is a huge part of our local community," said Holshoe. "I have a passion for storytelling and engaging people with new ideas. I'm very much looking forward to using all of our various communications channels as a form of storytelling to promote The Sailing Museum and bring its message to a larger audience."

"We're thrilled to have Erika on board here at The Sailing Museum," said Ashley Householder, Executive Director. "She's extremely creative and we've seen some great things from her already. Growth is our primary goal as the museum matures past its opening last year, and we're sure that Erika can help us in that capacity in her new role."

Holshoe's experience includes serving as the assistant director and curator of the German American Heritage Center & Museum in Davenport, Iowa and working as manager of operations and interpretation at the John Brown House Museum in Providence. She has worked for museums and collections in multiple capacities over the years, including curating, exhibition design and museum communications.

After majoring in German at the University of Rhode Island, Holshoe went on to earn an M.S. in Textile Conservation, Fashion History and Cultural Analysis of Dress, where she developed an expertise in fashion cultures and interpretation of historic clothing and textiles in museums. In her free time, she makes pink and cat-themed art prints and takes operatic voice lessons with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School.
