Birmingham's best-kept boating secret, Logan Martin Lake, is out, says Matthew Kronen, owner of Coosa Island Marina in Cropwell. Located just 30 miles east of the city, the lake is experiencing a new wave of boaters who have discovered great boating and fishing just a short drive away. Kronen also sees opportunity and is the new owner of TowBoatUS Logan Martin, the 24-hour on-water towing and assistance service for boaters.

"TowBoatUS handles the routine stuff - breakdowns, groundings, battery jumps," said Kronen. "We can respond day or night with a tow back to a marina or launch ramp." The TowBoatUS location is one of more than 300 across the country and was most recently owned by Chris Day. Nationwide, the towing service responds to around 90,000 requests for on-water assistance each year.

Said Kronen, "When Chris owned the location, I pretty much became his captain on the lake, running on calls. I told him if he'd ever like to sell, I'd be interested. I'm thankful he reached out to me." Kronen gives credit to Day for being a mentor in the on-water towing and assistance business. "His coaching has been great, and I'm looking forward to growing our business that gets our boaters safely home."

Coosa Island Marina has been in the Kronen family since 1983. Working in and learning the marine business has been a lifelong passion for Kronen. "I grew up on the lake," he added. While Kronen runs the company's two red 20-foot towboats, his wife, Tami, handles business operations. "She's crucial to our success," he said. The young couple is continuing the family's maritime tradition, raising a toddler and a 6-year-old at the lake.

Much like an auto club for recreational boat owners, Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) offers annual on-water Unlimited Towing Memberships for freshwater boaters and anglers for just $109 per year. Members receive more than 25 BoatUS benefits including discounts at local fuel docks and transient slips at marinas. Also offered is a subscription to BoatUS Magazine, free DSC-VHF radio registration and more.

Separate from BoatUS on-water towing, the company offers boat salvage and environmental remediation services.

The fastest way to request assistance from TowBoatUS Logan Martin Lake is to download the free BoatUS App, which connects boaters to the closest local towing captain. Additionally, the company can be reached at 205-362-9895 or by phoning the BoatUS toll-free 24/7 Dispatch Center at 800-391-4869.
