World Boating Day (25 - 26 May) is a global initiative designed to encourage people to embark on a journey into unchartered waters and gain unprecedented access to the world of leisure boating. Where better to celebrate World Boating Day, than Australia's leading marine industry event, the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS)?

In support of World Boating Day, Coral Sea Marina will use their presence at SCIBS this week as a platform to spread the word about the cruising potential of the Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef region through the promotion of their new documentary-style film series showcasing why the Whitsundays is the ultimate cruising destination.

"We set out to create a series of videos that would educate and inspire people to cruise the Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef region and have hopefully achieved that with help of some industry experts sharing their knowledge and passion with the viewer", explains Joscelyn O'Keefe, Head of Marketing and Business Development for Coral Sea Marina.

"For those who are already planning to visit, the series provides useful tips and in-depth destination information and for those who are simply dreaming of a visit one day, they will be all the inspiration needed to set that plan in motion. "

Historically a large portion of the attendees at SCIBS are first time boat owners or those who haven't yet made the plunge into boat ownership, but nonetheless are passionate about spending more time on the water. With this in mind the team at Coral Sea Marina recognised the boat show offered the perfect platform celebrate World Boating Day by hosting a 'Meet & Greet' event on their stand.

Ms O'Keefe continues, "We are really looking forward to meeting new people at SCIBS this week and sharing our joint passion for all things boating. SCIBS is always a great platform for us as a business to not only promote the marina, but to get people excited about all the boating opportunities in the Whitsundays - whether that be bringing their own boat, hiring a bareboat, chartering a Superyacht or experiencing one of the many award-winning day/ overnight skippered charters owe have on offer at the marina.'

All three episodes of the new documentary series are relevant to anyone interested in boating in the Whitsundays.

The first episode, "Your Whitsunday Home Port", explores the top-notch facilities and services offered at Coral Sea Marina, as well as delving into what's on offer in Airlie Beach and the surrounds.

Episode 2, "A Local's Guide to Cruising the Whitsundays" features Sharon Smallwood, a seasoned sailor and long-time resident of the Whitsundays, as she offers viewers an exclusive glimpse into her favourite cruising spots, hidden gems, and must-see locations throughout the Whitsunday Islands.

The episode includes breathtaking footage of Smallwood's own sailing expeditions onboard her yacht, Brilliant II, showcasing the diversity of experiences available to boaters in the Whitsundays. From tranquil sunsets to exhilarating hikes, viewers will be immersed in the magic of exploring the region on the water.

The third episode, "Discover the Great Barrier Reef", is a deep dive into UNESCO World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef. Experienced Master Guides Crystal Lacey, James Unsworth, and Brent Chatterton, offer invaluable insights into the natural wonders of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park with their extensive knowledge and expertise in marine biology, reef ecology, and sustainable tourism.

Viewers will gain a newfound appreciation for the reef's biodiversity and the critical role it plays in global marine conservation efforts.

We believe that education and awareness are key to protecting the Great Barrier Reef", explains Crystal Lacey, Master Reef Guide. "Through this episode, we aim to inspire viewers to become stewards of the reef and contribute to its long-term preservation".

Visitors to the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show are encouraged to pop down and 'Meet the Team' on World Boating Day (25 - 26 May), ask questions, and be inspired to discover more about the Whitsunday region and Coral Sea Marina, your home port whilst cruising this destination.
